## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|NWTCA is a charitable, cultural, educational<br>non-profit<br>organisation<br>dedicated<br>to<br>increase, promote, foster friendship, public<br>knowledge and understanding of the<br>Turkish<br>culture<br>and<br>language.<br>NWTCA organises community events and<br>activities where people of all ages and<br>nationalities<br>can<br>come<br>together<br>to<br>experience Turkish culture through Turkish<br>music,<br>festivals,<br>dance,<br>food<br>and<br>art. NWTCA plays an integral role in<br>bringing the Turkish-British community<br>together in the North West of England.<br>One of the main services we offer is<br>"community language teaching" of Turkish<br>for children and adults. This has enabled us<br>to offer a wider range of classes and<br>activities for people of Turkish origin or<br>people<br>with<br>some<br>kind<br>of<br>Turkish<br>connection. Some children who have<br>attended our classes could not previously<br>speak a word of Turkish, now they have<br>mastered the basics and have a sense of|

their culture and background-our weekend
---
sessions are particularly valued by single
parents whose children live with primary
carers with no knowledge of Turkish.
As children move through study modules
and pass progress tests included in the
materials, they develop a sense of academic
achievement & personal achievement
independent of more formal language
learning.
The Turkish lessons we provide, also serve
as a social hub for the Turkish community as
we have a waiting area for parents to
socialise when they wait for their children.
We have continued our online classes after
covid in line with what our community
wanted. We clearly see the advancement
in our student’s learning of Turkish
language and culture. The students build
strong friendships and take part in our
friendly art and writing contests. We have
supported our students and their families
by continuing with Turkish lessons and
making them available for a small fee to
cover costs. The children kept their
cameras off during the lessons and the
lessons have not been recorded to stay in
line with Data protection regulations.
Children and adults develop a sense of
citizenship, not only as part of discovering
their Turkish identity but also as a result of
finding a valued place as a bicultural
individual within an inclusive British society.
Our volunteers developed skillsets that
helped them to raise their employability
and boosted their confidence.
NWTCA Folk Dance group weekly lessons
have continued online and in person. These
lessons are growing in number and exhibits.
Different regional folk dances have been
introduced<br>and<br>the<br>dance<br>group
performances were a great success at
different events and we hope to carry on
and grow this activity going forward

30/05/2021 Visual arts workshop was exhibited at Horizons festival. Members of the community attendant this workshop and produced some creative artwork which was later exhibited at Horizons Festival 29/10/21 We organised our first Republic Day formal ball at the Midland Hotel with live Music and dinner.
