Achievements and Performance

SORP reference Summary of the main NWTCA is a charitable, cultural, achievements of the educational non-profit organisation charity, identifying the Para 1.20 dedicated to increase, promote, difference the charity’s foster friendship, public knowledge work has made to the and understanding of the Turkish circumstances of its culture and language. beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. NWTCA organises community events and activities where people of all ages and nationalities can come together to experience Turkish culture through Turkish music, festivals, dance, food and art. NWTCA plays an integral role in bringing the Turkish-British community together in the North West of England.

One of the main services we offer is "community language teaching" of Turkish for children and adults. This has enabled us to offer a wider range of classes and activities for people of Turkish origin or people with some kind of Turkish connection. Some children who have attended our classes could not previously speak a word of Turkish, now they have mastered the basics and have a sense of their culture and background-our weekend sessions are particularly valued by single parents whose children live with

primary carers with no knowledge
of Turkish.
As children move through study
modules and pass progress tests
included in the materials, they
develop a sense of academic
achievement & personal
achievement independent of more
formal language learning.
The Turkish lessons we provide,
also serve as a social hub for the
Turkish community as we have a
waiting area for parents to
socialise when they wait for their
children.
We began the new academic year
on 11/10/2020 and our weekly
lessons started online due to Covid
restrictions. We clearly see the
advancement in our student’s
learning of Turkish language and
culture. The students build strong
friendships and take part in our
friendly art and writing contests.
We have supported our students
and their families by continuing
with Turkish lessons and making
them available for free of charge.
The children kept their cameras off
during the lessons and the lessons
have not been recorded to stay in
line with Data protection
regulations.
Children and adults develop a
sense of citizenship, not only as
part of discovering their Turkish
identity but also as a result of
finding a valued place as a
bicultural individual within an
inclusive British society. Our
volunteers developed skillsets that
helped them to raise their
employability and boosted their
confidence.

the community, support during Covid19 times to reassure our community that we are here to support our community during these unprecedented times, for members that have not had the chance to see each other face to face to welcome each other and share experiences, hardships. 24/01/2021 Online Meeting– Education in the UK. Explained the UK education system to our members answered their questions and concerns with our expert panel. -30/01/2021 Formation of NWTCA Folk Dance group with online weekly lessons. We have had great interest from members following long period of isolation. These lessons are growing in number and exhibits. Different regional folk dances introduced and the dance group performances were a great success at different events and we hope to carry on and grow this activity going forward 07/03/2021 International Women’s Day online celebration and workshop. We had a great line up of a panel and a workshop for this event with women entrepreneurs, health and fitness enthusiasts with inspiring success stories against all odds. We had very positive feedback from the participants that they were inspired.
