## Committee’s Report to Members for the Year – 2021 (Hijri 1443)

## **President’s Report**

Considering the commitment, sacrifice, steadfastness, and achievements of our remarkable elders who came before us and those who are still present amongst us, I am humbled to write this report to you.

Alhamdulillah, we continue to benefit from the achievements, foresight and sacrifice of our elders, many of whom have departed this temporary abode especially during the last 3 years. I pray Allah SWT accepts all their efforts and the efforts of all those from our community who have passed away and forgives all their shortcomings, fills their graves with Noor and raises their ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdaus. Ameen.

Alhamdulillah post pandemic, the Masjid and Madrasah are back open and running as normal - we continue to pray that Allah SWT relieves us and all of humanity from the dangers of Covid.

The Masjid has provided the following:

- Daily Taleem in English, Urdu and Bangla

- Weekly Tafsir of the Holy Quran in both English and Urdu

- Weekly Dars Riyad-us-Saleheen

- Tafseer and Hadith Sessions for Sisters

- Madrasah is running at near full capacity with over 200 pupils

- Our Aalim class continues to attract students from across the West Midlands.

- Our Ulama continue to deliver regular programmes in the Masjid as well as esteemed guest Ulama coming to our Masjid to deliver lectures and words that can strengthen our Imaan. Throughout the year we have been fortunate to have national and international Scholars to come to Masjid Al Farouq to deliver various programs, seminars, Qiraat and Naat programs for brothers and sisters.

- During Ramadan we were able to revive the daily iftar program which was supported by our Mussallees, and typically resulted in over 250-300 people partaking in Iftar on a daily basis.

- Tablighi Jamaat’s from all over the World continue to visit our Masjid and the brothers continue with their weekly programs and ghust activities.

- Our Youth Club continues to attract upwards of 50 children every week, this youth club provides an opportunity for children to partake in physical activities but also

provides a motive for them to come to the Masjid and undertake Salaah in Jamaat and also listen to Deeni reminders which will be beneficial to them

The Anjuman has also:

- Helped to relocate a Syrian refugee family into Walsall as part of the Sponsor Refugee program in partnership with Citizens UK and Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham. We pray that moving the family to Walsall will help safeguard the Imaan of their children.

- Continued to take a leading role in reviving the Sunnah of ‘Eid Gah’ or ‘Eid in the Park’ for Eid Ul Fitr and Eid Ul Adha, in partnership with UMO and Masjid Aisha.

- Taken part in the National Share my Qurbani program which resulted in over 32 families and 5 individuals benefit from the Qurbani donations providing those in need in our community to receive Qurbani meat when they otherwise may not have benefitted.

During the last 12 months the refurbishment of the toilets and the kitchen have been completed. It has to be noted that if the kitchen refurbishment had not been finished, we would not have been able to use the kitchen facilities for Iftari cooking during Ramadan.

The new Mayat Khana it is operational and has made giving ghusal for the deceased much easier than before. The new freezers for the bodies will be going in shortly and the remainder of the renovation work will be completed in due course.

We continue to be active on our social media platforms reaching out to the wider community on activities in the Masjid as well as streaming bayaans and programmes. Our YouTube content continues to grow and we urge all members to like, subscribe and share links so our reach can impact on people that do not attend the Masjid.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Imams, Ustadhs, Teachers, Muadhdhins and kitchen volunteers. I would also like to thank the Youth Club volunteers and all other volunteers who sacrifice much of their time, to ensure the above activities and projects are delivered efficiently and for ensuring the smooth running of the Masjid. May Allah SWT accept the efforts of all those involved and make their efforts a means of forgiveness on the Day of Judgement, Ameen.

## **Vision & Moving Forward**

Alhumdulliah through the sacrifices of our elders during the last 60+ years the Anjuman has gotten to where have. We are very blessed to have a strong foundation on which to build, however the challenges of the time and the threats to our Deen and Imaan means we cannot rest on our laurels.

The challenges we as a community face means we have to think about coming back to our founding mission namely Anjuman-e-Isha’at-e-Islam. The Anjuman needs to refocus and unify our vision around our mission which was so eloquently created by our elders. Our mission should be propagation of the Deen and we should be united behind this, only then can we consider the challenges we are facing as a community and start addressing some of these which are listed below:

The Committee Report 2021-22

**1**

- What are our longer term aims/plans? This is something that is often missed as this requires your attendance and input, otherwise we remain stagnant and never move forward.

- How do we improve the provision for our Youth and engage with them to ensure our next generation are good upstanding practicing Muslims and valuable members of the community?

- How do we improve the provision for our sisters? Can we create safe spaces for them to continue to remain steadfast on their Deen.

- How do we address our ageing population and the unique services they will need?

- What role can the Anjuman play in wider society so we are making a noticeable difference to the wider community?

To address these issues and others, we need active involvement from all members of the Anjuman and our community, especially from our youngsters. This is a direct appeal to our members to firstly attend the AGM and also to try their best to attend the Masjid for Salah and encourage their children to attend

We also appeal for our younger members to get actively involved, bring in fresh ideas and help the Anjuman move forward. Over the last few years, many of our longstanding members and volunteers have returned to Allah SWT and there are far less individuals filling those gaps.

Membership for Anjuman starts from the age of 18 (at a significantly reduced monthly cost). I would also encourage all those members with children who are over 18 to request their children to become Anjuman members, so that they too can have a share in the benefits of the many activities listed above and plan for the future as they will be the next generation of custodians of the Masjid and Anjuman as well as contribute towards their akhira.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our members who continue to support the Anjuman and my fellow committee members for their efforts & sacrifice during the last year.

I pray Allah SWT accepts all our efforts and forgives all our shortcomings and gives the ability to continue doing this work for his sake and reward us all abundantly in this world and the next, Ameen. Any good that has come from the last year has been from Allah SWT and all shortcomings have been mine. I humbly request your forgiveness for any shortcomings.

## **Property Report**

Alhumdulillah, with regular management and attention to maintenance, our portfolio of rental accommodation has continued to have 100% occupancy and continues to contribute heavily towards the running cost of the Anjuman.

Earlier this year the two basement flats of Midland Road got flooded. Currently we are in discussions with loss adjusters and builders to bring the flats up to the standard prior to the flooding.

Alhumdulillah with the foresight of our elders, the Anjuman continues to benefit from the investment portfolio of our rental properties. This year we took steps to increase

the rental income in line with current marketable rates, making valuable contributions towards the annual running cost of the Anjuman. Alhumdulillah, the committee has worked actively throughout the year to minimise non-occupancy.

## **Treasurers Report**

The treasury team are happy to report that our Anjuman is in good health and with your continued support, we can look to a strong future. We thank all the members of the Anjuman who contribute to the funding through their Lillah, may the Almighty reward you abundantly.

If you are paying tax please complete a gift aid form if you haven’t done so already, so that we can benefit further from your contribution. If you have completed a gift aid form and are no longer paying income tax, please let us now as soon as possible.

We are always thinking about the future of our membership and as always, we request you to encourage our young and those that are eligible to join our Anjuman to become active members and assist in its operations.

We request all those members that are not paying their fees by standing order to adopt this payment method to ease the burden on yourselves and the collectors. Standing order mandate forms are available in the office.

If you have any fees outstanding you are requested to pay these as soon as possible. Paying of fees on time helps to cover the ever-increasing costs of running our Anjuman.

If anyone would like to understand and learn how the different strands of our Anjuman work and operate or can offer help and volunteer any time, please approach any member of the Executive committee. Help in any capacity will be gratefully received, as we all need to work together to progress our Anjuman and keep it moving in the right direction.
