Charity Commission Report for period 2024 – 2025

During this period, the Charity has undertaken a number of activities to strengthen its operating base and safeguard its future.

  1. The number of Trustees is being increased from 6 to 8. The new Trustees bring extensive experience in Safeguarding and vehicle operation and maintenance. Two key components of our operations. The two individuals have been on our Committee for the past 12 months.

  2. We have significantly increased the number of volunteer drivers to try and ensure we can satisfy most if not all of requested lifts.

  3. Our vehicle is a wheelchair modified Ford Tourneo Connect. Not all of our clients require this vehicle, so we have been working with adjacent villages to encourage or support them in setting up their own good neighbour schemes where drivers use their own cars. Haddenham has operated such a scheme for over 45 years. We shall continue to support these villages by undertaking all lifts requiring our specialised vehicle.

  4. We have purchased a new vehicle which should provide the Charity with 10 years of service. We undertook a series of grant funding applications as the new vehicle purchase price was £52,000. We were successful with our applications to the National Lottery Community Fund - £20k, a local charity Kop Hill Climb - £7.5k, another local charity Haddenham Beer Festival Trust - £5.0k. We also sold our existing vehicle to one of our clients, which was a great move as it has transformed his and his wife’s lives. We completed the purchase by releasing some of our reserves. This fund raising is the only one we undertake as our annual operating costs are covered by donations or by support provided by local businesses.

  5. We provide all volunteer drivers with a Handbook containing all our Policies. With the new expertise being brought to the Charity by the incoming new Trustees, we are undertaking a thorough review of the policies to ensure that they are up to date with legislation, fulfil good practice and are fully understood by our drivers.

  6. With the purchase of the new vehicle, we have updated and improved our website and are in the process of updating our Flyer.

  7. We have struggled to find a single person to take on the position of coordinator – liaising with clients and organising lifts. We did operate a rather random rota system, which is not great for developing relations with our clients. We have now rationalised that to a fixed rota with 4 participants on a 2 weekly schedule, which we hope will provide more comfort and confidence to our clients. Our client base remains similar at around 50.

All participants in the Charity remain volunteers and we have no paid staff or permanent office.
