Chairman’ Report 2024
This has been a difficult year due to the enormous increase in energy costs which, unfortunately, we were obliged to pass on by increasing the hire charges for the hall. We are still monitoring the situation and may have to do adjustments to the hire charges in order that users pay the rate according to how much energy they use.
We are fortunate in that our new treasurer, who I shall introduce later, has managed to move us to a much cheaper supplier which should ease the situation.
Apart from the energy situation the hall is functioning well with just the CCTV system requiring attention. I am hopeful of receiving a grant from Boxley Parish Council that will go a long way towards the cost of the work. Our caretaker, Pat, who is also the booking secretary, continues to do a fantastic job and maintains the hall to a high standard of cleanliness and repair.
As mentioned, we have a new person, Cathy Mildenhall who has kindly volunteered to take on the role of Hon Treasurer after Anne relocated out of the area. Many thanks to Anne for her tremendous work and thank you and welcome Cathy.
I have, after thirty-two years, stepped down as a Boxley Parish Councillor and no long represent them on this organisation. However, we are very lucky in that the Council has appointed Cllr Paul McLean to replace me, and I am certain he will be a great asset. Welcome Paul. I will continue as a Trustee if members are happy for me to.

Utility cost are higher driven primarily by increased YoY use (20% more in Gas and 10% more in Electricity)
From July 24 we changed suppliers which should see a saving of around £5000 - Gas down from 21 to 6 per unit, and Electric from 75 to 21 per unit
Income from Regular hire is slightly down, but up 35% for casual hire.
It may be worth looking at a remote thermostat ( e,g, Hive) to determine where increased use is happening , but will also enable a further reduction in costs when the hall is empty.
