Chairman’ Report 2023
It is with sadness that I start this report with the news of the passing of our Hon Treasurer, James. In the short time James was in this position he brought our financial dealings up to date by setting up internet banking and producing detailed monthly reports. We have much to be grateful for.
However, we have been very fortunate because we already have a very capable person, Anne Newman, who has very kindly volunteered to take over the role. Welcome and thank you.
The kitchen is now fully refurbished and has received a lot of positive comments. We have had the main door replaced which is a huge improvement. The outside service boxes have also been replaced.
The most challenging thing this year has been the huge increase in energy costs. Unfortunately, we have had to raise the hire fees to cover this and continue to monitor the situation.
We had problems with the hot water system which could have been overcome by replacing the hot water cylinder or a far more expensive modification to the boiler. This was something that needed to be rectified immediately as there was no hot water to the taps and fortunately, an emergency request for a grant from Boxley Parish Council was applied for, and granted, and we have been able to have the more expensive, but better, option commissioned. Our sincere thanks to the members of Boxley Parish Council for, once again, helping us out.
Our caretaker, Pat, who is also the booking secretary, continues to do a sterling job and maintains the hall to a high standard of cleanliness and repair. This role is vital for keeping the hall in full use and making sure revenues keep coming in. Pat also obtains quotes and engages contractors to carry out repairs and services as and when required. We would be lost without her. Thank you, Pat.
Again, many thanks to Heather, our Hon Secretary for carrying out this vital role and to the Trustees and Management Committee members for their time and effort throughout the year.
