Para 1.17 and
1.19
We have continued to support beneficiaries
living in Government institutions in
Romania. We do this by providing funding
towards staffing for direct interventions to
children and adults in Government homes,
and through advising and supporting staff.
The staff team consists of a nurse who
leads the project, a project co-ordinator,
social worker, physiotherapist and
psychologist.
Throughout the year we have directly
provided medical and therapeutic supplies
and have supported a range of educational
activities.
This year we have also continued
supporting individuals in the community
who are at risk of institutionalisation, to
keep them living with their families.
Significant progress has been made in
gaining accreditation of a community centre
for the local community.
We have also supported/undertaken three
visits to the projects this year.
We have also hosted a master’s student
this year, who undertook a project
supporting the charity to consider how we
can enhance our promotion of human
rights.

whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit

from the Charity Commission on public
benefit.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference Throughout the year, the multidisciplinary team have offered a wide range of direct therapeutic input and support, assisting children and adults with behaviours of concern, physical health issues and mental health issues in addition to their disability. The team have also offered support and advice to care staff within the Government institutions and families in the community.

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The provision of resources including
nutritional supplements, specialist chairs
and bathing equipment, bars, a ramp and a
ventilator have improved health and
mobility.
Additional resources have been provided
including technology to support social
engagement and art and craft activities to
enhance imagination and fine motor skills.
A number of community visits have been
facilitated this year, for example to the
Christmas lights and on a train ride. These
not only teach day to day living skills but
also reduce stigma, as beneficiaries are
able to engage with members of the
general public, who may not come into
contact with disabled people often. To
further improve day to day living skill, we
have continued to offer the Life Skills
project in the adult institution.
We supported a trip led by a speech and
language therapist in April and May,
supporting swallowing for those at risk.
Outcomes indicated that swallowing risk
was reduced and there was an increased
participation and enjoyment in eating
activities.
A second trip took place in the summer,
with volunteers offering educational and
social activities which were very much
appreciated by beneficiaries and staff.
A committee trip took place in October, with
committee members meeting with the MDT
in Romania, reviewing the projects and
also providing advice and support for
specific children and adults.
We hosted a masters student who is
studying international law, who has
supported us to review our policies to
ensure they are as human rights focused
as possible and has provided training and
resources to improve our knowledge and
confidence in this area.
