## **Chair of Trustee AGM Report 2024**

On behalf of the Trustees, I want to congratulate the all the members of Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps on another successful year.

It would be remiss not to thank our hard-working committee members and fellow trustees who put in the many hours of voluntary effort that ensure the club continues to be a valued part of our community.

## **Fundraising and Events**

Fundraising is hard and in the current economic climate is more difficult than ever. We are indebted to those amazing individuals who help with fundraising events, sponsorships and endless applications for support that raise the vital funding that allow us to provide opportunities for our members to benefit from participation in lifesaving activities. As a result of these efforts the club is in a healthy financial position.

## **Lifesaving Training**

Week in and week out it has been a pleasure to watch as our trainers imparting lifesaving skills and knowledge to the Rookies, Cadets and Adults has been amazing. The level of enthusiasm has been fantastic to see and whether it is rookie learning a new skill or a future lifeguard preparing for a beach or pool lifeguard qualification all the trainers have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism. Importantly I have seen training that is being conducted with trust and respect that grows into a positive learning environment.

## **Youth Development**

While training young lifeguards is core to the club’s ethos it isn’t just lifesaving skills that are being developed within the club. Our youngest members are learning self-confidence, teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills that we hope will help throughout their lives. With a new group of instructors having obtained their NTA assessor qualifications we are well placed to continue the development of out future lifeguards and their growth into future well rounded adults.

## **Competition**

The club has had an excellent year with participation, and successes, in all four of the major disciplines including pool (Speeds and Lifesaving), beach competitions and the return of IRB competition. With the new facility there will be opportunities to build give greater access to core skill development and to increase participation rates and to simply give more members can experience be fun while improving health, fitness and improving vital lifesaving skills.

## **The Future**

While 2024 has proven that the club has a fantastic combination of the right people with the talent and passion to succeed it is worth taking a look ahead. The build of new club house is nearly complete, and we look forward to being in the new facility this summer. We want to increase access to more of the community and grow participation in lifesaving training and sport.

Once again, thank you to everyone for your contributions to the life of the club and I look forward to 2025 and seeing the club continue improve the life of its members and to add value to the community in which we live.
