Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps: Charity 1166158 Charity Commission Report 2023

On behalf of the Trustees, I want to pass on our huge thanks to everyone in the club who has contributed so much this past year.

A special vote of thanks to our hard-working committee members who always go that extra mile to ensure the club is well positioned not only for today, but also to continue to play a part in the community in years to come.

Fundraising and Events

Our charity wouldn’t be where we are today without the hard work of raising funds and we are indebted to those of you who help with fundraising events, sponsorships and the events that raise the vital funds that allow us to provide opportunities for our members to participate in lifesaving activities.

Lifesaving Training

Training future lifesavers is core to our purpose and each week seeing our trainers imparting skills and knowledge to the Rookies, Cadets and Adults has been amazing. Whether it is rookie learning a personal survival skill, a new IRB crew member or driver to candidate preparing for a beach or pool lifeguard qualification and potentially gaining the grounding for a future career all the trainers have demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm and professionalism for which the club can be very proud.

Youth Development

It isn’t only lifesaving skills that are being developed within the club. The Rookies and Cadets are learning self-confidence, teamwork, discipline and leadership skills that will help throughout their lives.

Competition

Lifesaving sport is unique as sport with a purpose and the club has had an excellent year with participation, and successes, in all the major disciplines including pool (Speeds and Lifesaving) and beach competitions. We will be looking to build participation rates next year so more members can experience the fun and skill development that comes with competing in lifesaving events.

The Future

While 2023 has proven that the club has a fantastic combination of the right people with the talent and passion to succeed it is worth taking a look ahead. The build of new club house will be started and is an 18 month project and we will be looking to make arrangements to continue beach activities over the Summer from temporary facilities. We want to grow participation in lifesaving training and sport. Once our new building is established, we be wanting to maximise the benefits of a facility for members and the broader community.

The Trustees would like to thank everyone from supporters to members and their families who contributed to the life of the club and we look forward to 2024 and seeing the club grow and continue to be a positive part of the community.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  2. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
