RUMNEY FORUM

TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 05 APRIL 2021

OBJECTS

THE YEAR: ITS OBJECTIVES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

During the year ending 5[th] April 2021 Rumney Forum continued to help households by remaining a FareShare partner and helping to provide food to many struggling families per week. During 2020 we set up a food pantry to give additional support for people in an emergency situation, we are able to offer a bag of food, free of charge, to keep people going for a few days. We support individuals and families throughout the year.

Rumney Forums prize project, Benthyg borrow don’t buy, the library of things, continued to grow by utilising the grant received from the Landfill Disposals Tax Scheme. Cerys Jones left the charity in early 2020, we appointed a new project manager to continue to work on organising and expanding the project. We have been able to offer training to other communities to set up their own library of things.

During the COVID pandemic we continued to run the charity and offer as many services as possible while remaining COVID safe. Rumney Forum were one of the few organisations that were able to offer a Christmas Grotto that remained socially distanced and COVID safe. This was attended by families within the local community and enjoyed by all.

We have set up an auxiliary Café within the charity to help generate more foot fall to the building and offer a space for all to come and relax in, meet other members of the community and encourage those that do not leave there house very often, to come and have a chat with some friendly faces. This has proven a success, especially with older members of the community making friends with each other, and feeling less lonely.

We hope to encourage more use of the building for local groups and community activities.

Our volunteers are exceptional and continue to work tirelessly to further benefit the community and help Rumney Forum grow. We reward them with Time Credits for their dedication and hard work.

The issue of leaks in the roof of the rear of the building continue to be a challenge. The front of the building, with a separate electricity supply is usable, we continue to search for funding to get this repaired and make use of the whole of the ground floor of the building. We have managed to temporarily make use of the rear end of the building by installing leak catchers and temporary lighting to make the building safe.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The finances for the year are still run on an Excel spreadsheet with a separate accounts sheet to manage spends against the Landfill Disposals Tax Scheme grant.

The year resulted in a loss for Rumney Forum. This will balance itself out over the life of the Landfill Disposals Tax Scheme grant of 3 years. Excluding project spends Rumney forum still made as small loss, this was mainly due to the COVID pandemic.

RISK MANAGEMENT

We have public liability insurance; employers’ liability insurance and buildings and contents cover.

All trustees are either level 2 or 3 qualified in food hygiene. We ask that all volunteers for Fareshare to take food hygiene training.

We create Risk assessments of our activities and hold a level 4 food standards hygiene rating.
