The trustees present the annual report together with the financial statements of the CIO for the year ended 31 March 2023.
## **Governance and management**
The charity is a CIO operated under the rules of its constitution adopted 18 March 2016 and amended 14 October 2019. The CIO was registered with the Charity Commission on 18 March 2016 and commenced its operation on 11 April 2016.
## **Public Benefit**
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
## **Aims and objectives**
To further or benefit the residents of Fegg Hayes and the surrounding area, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations, in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities, in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation, with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents. In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the Trustees shall have the power to establish or secure an establishment of a community centre and to maintain, manage or co-operate with any statutory authority, in the maintenance and management of such a centre, for the activities promoted by the Charity in furtherance of the above objects.
## **Methods adopted for the recruitment and appointment of new Trustees**
Fegg Hayes Methodist Church Council may appoint three trustees. Other trustees are elected by the membership.
## **Summary of the main activities undertaken**
The words that people often use to describe our organisation is ‘welcoming’ and ‘safe’. This is not only what we hear in the Hub but also fed-back to us from staff in schools, in the ‘My Streets’ report compiled by the NSPCC team working in the local area and from health and social care staff working in the area. We are fortunate that, because we have a large team of volunteers, in our activity sessions we have team members who can spend time talking to people and we often find people sharing their feelings and concerns and state that they would not ordinarily talk about these issues but that they feel it is a safe environment to do so. Several people describe us as ‘home from home’ and our growing team of volunteers have mainly come from people attending sessions and wanting to get more involved.
The Hub is in use 6 or 7 days a week, our programme varies across the year, but we have approximately 12 activity sessions led by ourselves, either alone or in partnership with others and 8 sessions run by other groups. This number rises over the school holidays as we put on extra activities for families. We also host meetings and training sessions along with children’s birthday parties and community events. Even with groups who hire the Hub we aim to be more than just a venue. Some of our volunteers also volunteer with other groups or participate in the activities.
Our programme includes activities for all ages and groups in the community including parent and toddler groups, after school groups, martial arts groups for children and young people, creative activities for adults and a lunch club for older people. We also offer support for individuals through our community lounge, run in partnership with Stoke on Trent City Council and through befriending, the provision of food parcels and foodbank vouchers and through signposting to other services.

Queen's reign. We concluded our celebrations with an afternoon tea for older membtsfs of the communlty
and sorne of Ihose who'd been involved in maklng the quill.
In January 2023 we started a photography group, as part of a larger community arts project. This group
has been successful al engaging older men. a group we have previousty had little provision for.
We have engaged wllh opproxlmately 400 people a week, wlth thls number Inenasing durlng the school

costs in the event that our operations beme unsustainable or we decided lo cease running the hub.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2023 which are set out on pages 6 to 11.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
As the charity’s trustees of Fegg Hayes Futures you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Fegg Hayes Futures’ accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
- accounting records were not kept in respect of Fegg Hayes Futures as required by
- section 130 of the Act; or
- the accounts do not accord with those records; or
• the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Purpose of Funds**
**Tudor Trust** - For the Community Development Manager's salary and on-costs.
**Tudor Trust – Wellbeing** - to support staff, volunteer and trustee wellbeing.
**Stoke North Big Local** – Stoke North Big Local offers funding granted by National Big Lottery, for the purpose of providing funds to community groups and organisations in the Chell, Chell Heath and Fegg Hayes areas of Stoke-on-Trent. The funds are restricted to providing community projects and events, within the above mentioned areas. In the year ended 31 March 2022, funding was given to pay for booklet printing for a pilot growing project.
**Stoke on Trent City Council Ward Budget** – Funding for a contribution to Ju-Jitsu classes for children and young people and contribution towards annual lantern parade. In the year ended 31 March 2021, funding from Cllr James contributed towards the cost of the lantern parade.
**Stoke on Trent City Council – Community Investment Fund** – To fit new flooring.
**Adult Social Care Small Grants Scheme** – To fund ‘Bowling Together’
**Community Health Champions Partner Grants** – to engage with and support the Community Health Champions project for at least one year. The grant funding can be used flexibly to build capacity to allow time to engage in the project and to enable innovative ways of working with the organisation’s beneficiaries to help share positive health messaging.
**ALDI Community Cupboard** - to support children and families with food, particularly during the school holidays.
**The Henry Smith Charity** – A grant of £67,000 has been awarded towards three years' running costs providing support to disadvantaged people in the north of Stoke-on-Trent.
**Food for Life Get Togethers Plant and Share** – to run a community Plant and Share event
**Stoke on Trent City Council Christmas Food and essential supplies fund** – funding to enable the purchase of energy vouchers, long life food, fresh fruit and vegetable and emergency items for individuals or families in need.
**National Lottery Awards for All** – funding for a project to celebrate the Jubilee. The project included making a celebratory quilt, creating well-dressing tableaux and a community afternoon tea.
**Arts Council National Lottery** – Whitfield Valley Mysteries R&D is a 9-month programme co-created by diverse artists & community members from ex-mining areas Fegg Hayes & Chell. It explores post-carbon stories of change with the long-term aim of developing a large-scale site-responsive community performance & ongoing arts offer.
Stoke on Trent city council Household Support Fund – funding for emergency food provision, fruit to give away after school and for the provision of food at our weekly after school club.
**Making It Happen** – support for the Community Lounge
**Neighbourly Warm Communities Fund** – to support the welcome space and community lounge
**Stewardship, Warm Welcome Spaces** – to support the welcome space and community lounge
**Stoke on Trent City Council Ward Budget** – £250 towards supporting young people in the Ju-jitsu class. £250 for food provision for the after school club and for after school fruit.

## **Purpose of Funds (continued)**
**Western Power Distribution’s Community Matters Fund** – bringing families together to cook a healthy, lowcost meal once a week over the summer holidays.
**Stoke on Trent City Council winter essentials fund –** funding for the provision of emergency food parcels, energy top up vouchers and other essentials to help individuals and families across the area.
**Hubb Foundation, Hubb Club** – this was not a grant but payment for work on a project to provide befriending services to people in the community.
## **3. Trustee remuneration and related party transactions**
No remuneration or expenses were paid to the trustees or any related party during the year.
## **Stoke North Big Local Partnership (SNBL)**
Stoke North Big Local Partnership is made up of local residents, resident groups and agencies who work to improve the communities of Fegg Hayes, Great Chell and Chell Heath. Nigel Brown, Sue Akkurt, Pam Heraty who are resident in the local area were involved with SNBL during the year but absent from any discussion concerning funding for Fegg Hayes Futures. During the year grants of £nil (2022: £135) were received by Fegg Hayes Futures from Stoke North Big Local. There were no amounts due at the year end.
