I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Wokin8ham In Need (the Charity) for
the year ended 31Juty 2022.
Responsibilities and basls of report
As the charity trustees of the Charityi you are responsible forthe preparation of the accounts in
accordance with the requirements of the Charities Art 20111.the Acff l. I report in respect of my
examination of the Charity5 account5 carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carryin8
out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charlty Commission
under sertion 14515llbl of the Act.

Wokin8ham In Need has again been exceptionally arti￿ otrEr this past year because of the reSLsltln8
effects of Covld-19 pandemlc and the eC0￿mI¢ enwronment. We found thi5 especlally difficult as we
We￿ stlll unable to move forward with our nom?al fvndraisln8 activities. HOw￿er, we have finalised
two malor projects thi5 belng the SerGory Garden for adults wfth leamln8 dlsabilftles at The Acorn
Centre In Woklnghom and ? refurtHshed kltchen and shower room at the Woklngham Ill Need Drop In
Centre at the Salvation Army.
Our maln alm isto protect the Homelessand Vulr*rable T*lthln our community and therefore we have
ached o(rt to assist in many areas.

. The Ser¢s0ry Garden has been something that has ralsed our
proflle wlthln the community. and we a￿ proud that we have made a difference here. We have
ljooklets which show the Journey and can supply these for referen￿. The Garden is primarily for the
use by the cllents and staff of the Acom Day Centre. The Centre provides serv6ce5 for adults with
mentsl and physlcal disabilities on site but many othèr groups now want to visit the Barden to enjoy
the wonderful calm open space and apprecfiate a wide variety of sensory experiences. Local Brownle
and Ralnbow 8roups have also held mee￿A&S there and we have a list of people who want to lJ5e the
faclllty movlng *orward. The Trustees agreed that the Garden Is now suttessfulty complete and we
have fomially passed the upkeep and maintenance resp)nsibilits"es to Wokingham Borouth Councll
but this will be undertjur supervislon In order to maintain the garden to a hl8h standard.
Moving on from the success of the knm Centre Sensory Garden we have now been approached by
Wokln8ham Hospltsl to design a Sensory Ganlen and also by Wokingham Town Council to develop a
Garden of Rellectionlmemorral at Howard Palmer Gardens In the tsntre of Wokingham.

In Centre: After obta5nirg initlal plannln8 pemiis51on and then fundlng for
thls centre to be bullt for use by the 5afvatlon Army volunteers to asslst the homeless and the
vulnerable, we continue to support and provlde asslstsn¢e. We fvnd a podiatry service and when
asked for food and dothln8 donations we are always there. Another project whkh we have achieved
Is to (lesi8n and install a new commercial kitchen folkjwing the initial funding we gave for a shower
room, breakfast bar area and new oven. With the kttthen 5ervlng approximately 61)XJ mea15 per year
supportin8 the homeless and vulnerable in the ¢ommunity. there was a desperats need for a new fully
equipped kltchen as the current one ¥As no lon8er fft for purpose. We have also refvfbished the
shower room and contlnue to support finaneially thè 8eneral runnln8 of the Wokln8ham In Need Orop
In Centre. We also support Cafe Refresh. afrrendship café prowdin8 a warm welcome to everyone and
the opportunity to cha¢ enjoy a snacK make new frierKls and feel lesslsolated.

workshops delivered in secondary SCh￿IS prlor to CovKI-19 and are now able to provlde workshops
post lock down. We ha¥e ￿Idence of success and have restrlcted fvnds for more workshopsto ensure
we can dellver a servite when requlred.

providing comfort 8ift5 through0￿ the pandemic and have won a Hallmark Community Partners
Award. We continue to help and or8anise events as well. Together with our partner, Circus knne. we
are now f¥Jndin& organisin& and delwerire entertalnment afternoon sessions to several care homes
which have proven to be very 5ur£essful.

The Mental Health Workshops for Prlmary School chiklren have proven to be a great success. Each
workshop Is assessed, and an evaluatH)n fom retumed w￿h feedback. We developed these
workshops la fyer 15 available in ￿latIon to thisl in partnershlp wtth arcus Scene and we are now also
able to fund and dellver workshops forvulnerable adults In care home5 and day care setting5 plus pre-
school chlldren where we have identified a need. We prioritise where need is most, and the servlce
Is provided free at polnt of delNery.
We were Inltlally requested by the Royal Berkshire Hosprtal to ass15t in alterin8 2500 Theatre Gown5
and to make eye masks. face masks. Krub hats. scrub bags and more. We fom)ed a group of sewln8
volunteers. and we named them the Creative Nlghtin8ales- thelr work 15 amazlng. So much so that
the RBH put usforward fora Natlonal Award in relation to the helpwe havegiven and won a certilicate
of achievement.
Thls has moved on and we now provlde comfort bags. bereavements b38s. snooze bags. dementla
bonds and more. We are currently sourcing 81fts for the chlldren's wards at R8H and chiklren's
hosplces In the area. The Creative Ni8htln8ale5 are a wonderful group of lad*s who sew and produce
beautlful items which we then fill wlth comfortln8 8lfts to make Ilfe more bearable for those In need.

R8H Ssn't In the Wokingham Borough but is the Main Fryital seNn8 the residents of Woklngham
Borough. The H05Pltal is looking to start the pik>t ASAP.
WIN has agreed to support thls project and has purchased an Inltial palr of headphones for a pllot
scheme prlor to the project commencing. The Truttees agreed that tenn5 are to be drawn up in
relation to thls pllot. If. for any reason. the project does not 80 ahead, the headphones will be
retumed to WIN for use wlth other charity opportunities. A fomial document will be presented to
confirm this. It Is hoped that the project wlll move forward as a success and WIN is happy to support
thls.
We will continue to SUPPOrt the R8H arKI more as we move forward and havesecured 8rants to enable
us to do so from T￿￿S and Foundatlonsthat realise the Impact and drfference we make.
