## **TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024**

The trustees have pleasure in submitting their report together with the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024.

## STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Hayley’s Heroes is a small charity registered with the Charity Commission on 15 March 2016 as a Foundation Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered number 1166074. It is governed by its constitution.

The registered office is 61 London Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME16 8TX.

As a Foundation CIO, the trustees are the only voting members of the charity.

The maximum permitted number of trustees is six. New trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the existing charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as new trustees, the existing trustees are required to have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO. Other than the first trustees, appointment is for a term of three years.

## TRUSTEES

The trustees who served the charity during the year were:

Jodie Martin Zoe Bridges Julie Town Emma Stafford Charlotte Hutchins

All trustees were appointed on 15 March 2016.

## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The objects of the charity are the relief and assistance for persons of all ages, but particularly young adults suffering from ill health as a result of cancer. Beneficiaries will be from England and Wales, but particularly across Kent, and include those suffering with cancer, their families and their carers. Relief is provided principally, but not exclusively, through emotional and financial support, educational and morale boosting activities. Beneficiaries are currently referred by mainstream medical agencies.

## **TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 continued**

The charity continues to work hard to raise its profile through social media, attending fundraising events, when able, to talk about our mission and the purpose we serve in the local community. This year we have worked hard to align ourselves with local hospices, where we can bring benefit to their patient. We successfully boosted our presence at our local hospital at the end of the year to broaden our reach.

In 2024, we were able to reach more people and attend more events. The charity is still feeling the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic, but we have been successful in raising our profile and presence in the community.

The charity has been selected by local business through sponsorship and for fundraising events like golf days.

## FINANCIAL REVIEW

The year to 31 March 2024 is the eighth year that the charity has been in operation. Fundraising income has not yet returned to pre Covid 19 levels and has decreased when compared to the previous year. However, donors have been generous in previous years and unrestricted reserves of £107,862. were carried forward at the end of the year. The trustees are satisfied that the charity is on a sound footing and will be able to continue operating for the foreseeable future.

## RISKS AFFECTING THE CHARITY

The Covid 19 pandemic had a major impact on the activities of the charity. Many of the activities provided were not possible. As restrictions ease some activities have become available again. The charity is conscious of its dependence on medical agencies to provide referrals to enable the charity to attain its objectives. Covid 19 has impacted on the ability of agencies to refer families. The level of current reserves mean that the charity is well placed to be able wait until confidence returns and it is able to offer its services in full again.

## PUBLIC BENEFIT

The trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by The Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties.

The trustees would like to thank all the donors and referrers for their support during the year.
