RESCUES ON THE GROUND

CINO RESCUE

HIT BY A CAR, LEFT AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR DEAD. DAYS LATER, WHEN HE STILL HADN’T DIED, HE WAS THROWN AROUND THE BACK OF A CAFE WHERE THEY CHUCKED THEIR RUBBISH BAGS. THEY LEFT HIM THERE FOR THE GUNMEN TO KILL HIM, OR JUST TO ROT LIKE THE GARBAGE THEY DEEMED HIM TO BE

Rescued by an animal lover who begged RANA to help. We couldnt say no.

This little pup was in agony, he was terrified and he deserved so much more than life had given him in just 3 months. RANA covered his vet bills, prepared for him to travel and have been paying board ever since. This sick, abused little pup has turned into a magnificent boy and is still looking for a home.

2024 INCOME

SPONSORSHIP REMAINS OUR LARGEST PROPORTION OF INCOME. This allows us to budget for the year and remains our most “favourable” form of donation. Allowing us to support the animals which sadly remain unadopted with boarding fees and food.

In the next few years, we want to focus on boosting our campaign donations, focusing on specific cases to bring in income and highlight the extreme cases we work with in North Africa. We plan to do this by doing more social media focused campaigns and offering muliple platforms for donations.

Grants and Gift Aid have brought in 15% of our total income for this year. We would like to focus more on this in the coming years, once a volunteer with this skill set is located.

We are a UK registered Charity, our rehoming efforts are based in the UK. Our website and social media are all in English, so it is not unexpected that our UK reach, and therefore the donations received, are mostly from British supporters.

However, the donations from secondary countries vary year on year, showing reliance on campaigns and their social media reach.

We remain confident that UK donations will always be the backbone of our RANA income.

Boarding fees occupy almost 60% of our expenses. Boarding payments have always been the largest proportion of our RANA annual expenditure.

The preparation period for animals to be allowed to travel is 4 months and many animals remain unadopted (specifically dogs) which means boarding fees every month. It is the only way to keep animals safe. We see dogs being slaughtered every month, even those with tags in their ears and collars on. These animals are not safe unless they are off the streets and we are happy to be able to support the animals we do.

Travel and vet bills make up the rest of our expenditure, this is very much inline with previous annual expenditure.

WE WERE SADLY £2756 IN DEFICIT DURING THIS YEAR DUE TO BOARDING COSTS AND ANIMALS NOT BEING ADOPTED AS QUICKLY AS WE WOULD LIKE.

ANIMAL FLIGHT TICKETS ALSO INCREASED

WE ALSO HAD TO COVER SOME LARGE VET BILLS FOR CATS WHO WERE IN FOSTER IN THE UK. VET BILLS IN THE UK ARE EYE WATERINGLY EXPENSIVE AND SOON SWALLOWED UP A LOT OF OUR DONATIONS THAT WE COULDN’T RECOVER

www.ra-na.com

KEY CHALLENGES FACED DURING 2024

  1. FLIGHT BUDDIES - we always try to find people who are already travelling. This keeps expenses low and avoids any increase in carbon footprint - we need more offers of flight buddies!

  2. DRIVING BUDDIES: we love volunteers who get involved, donating their time, use of their vehicles, which all help us save lives - we just need more driving volunteers

  3. DOG FOSTER HOMES IN THE UK - stats from this year alone show that once the dog is in the UK, the chance of adoption increases substantially. Therefore UK based fosterers are an integral part of securing more adoptions. We are desperate for more support .

GOALS FOR 2025

L E S S O N S L E A R N E D & I M P R O V E M E N T S M A D E

  1. TO BOOST DONATIONS WE NEED A VOLUNTEER TO MANAGE SOCIAL MEDIA AND SUPPORT SPECIFIC FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGNS 2. TO INCREASE DOG ADOPTIONS, WE NEED CREDIBLE, DEDICATED DOG FOSTERERS 3. WE NEED TO BOOST ADVERTISEMENTS FOR FLIGHT BUDDIES AND DRIVING ASSISTANCE

  2. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO APPLY FOR GRANTS

Report to the trustees/members of Rescue Animals North Africa on the accounts for the year ended 5th April 2025 set out on pages 5 to 9.

RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT

My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or

  4. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

5. PAYMENTS TO TRUSTEES AND RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS

No payments were made to trustees or any persons connected with them during this financial period other than for reimbursement of expenses incurred.

6. RISK ASSESSMENT

The trustees actively review the major risks which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe that maintaining the free reserves stated, combined with the annual review of the controls over key financial systems carried out on an annual basis will provide sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. The trustees have also examined other operational and business risks which they face and confirm that they have established systems to mitigate the significant risks.

7. RESERVES POLICY

The trustees have considered the level of reserves they wish to retain, appropriate to the charity's needs. This is based on the charity's size and the level of financial commitments held. The trustees aim to ensure the charity will be able to continue to fulfil its charitable objectives even if there is a temporary shortfall in income or unexpected expenditure. The trustees will endeavour not to set aside funds unnecessarily.

8. PUBLIC BENEFIT

The charity acknowledges its requirement to demonstrate clearly that it must have charitable purposes or ‘aims’ that are for the public benefit. Details of how the charity has achieved this are provided in the Trustees Report. The trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit before deciding what activities the charity should undertake.
