Our Favourite 21-22 Adoptions

BORIS

the snotty, 3 legged, no tailed cat!

Boris was rescued from the streets of Tunisia after he had been hit by a car. Sadly his leg couldn't be saved but it didn't stop him in anyway from being the crazy affectionate, uber friendly cat he always was. As he couldn't be rehomed locally, he was placed in the extremely overcrowded shelter in Tunis where he contracted severe cat flu. This made his chances of adoption even more tricky & meant our adoption team had a huge challenge on our hands to find him the perfect, (understanding) home. Thankfully due to a chain of volunteers & a lot of hours, Boris found his perfect match & now lives in Oxford, charming everyone he meets!

DUNCAN

BLIND BLACK CAT

Black cats are notoriously diffcult to rehome around the world so when we were faced with the challenge of finding Black and Blind Cat Duncan a home, we were a little worried. Duncan sadly lost his eyes, like many cats in Tunisia, due to pure neglect. Rather than taking him to the vet to treat a simple eye infection, poor Duncan was left to suffer & was finally dumped on the streets with his sister. Whilst her eyes could be saved, Duncan's infection was now too extreme. So sad & so pointless when some simple eye drops would have done the trick. Thankfully a wonderful family near Cornwall saw his picture & fell in love, adding him to their family filled full of 4 other cats and a newborn (human!) baby.

Our Favourite 21-22 Adoptions

MARGOT (WAS BAHJA) DOG

MARGOT USED TO LIVE ON THE STREETS OF TUNISIA . SHE WAS SUPER FRIENDLY & SPENT A LOT OF HER TIME PLAYING WITH THE CHILDREN IN HER NEIGHBOURHOOD.

ONE DAY THE GUNMEN CAME & MARGOT INNOCENTLY RAN UP TO HER KILLERS, WAGGING HER TAIL PLEASED TO SEE THESE NEW PEOPLE & WELCOME THEM TO HER STREET. THEY SHOT HER & LEFT HER FOR DEAD.

Thankfully one of our RANA rescuers lived near by & heard about the shooting incident running to her rescue, taking her to the vets for life saving treatment. This poor gentle, kind dog would have otherwise been left to bleed out, a slow painful death.

Margot then stayed in her foster home, waiting patiently for the offer of an adoption, however when we heard that neighbours were planning to throw poisoned meat over the wall to kill her once again, we knew we needed to act fast. Margot was sent to the UK via another foster home in Paris - there was nothing we weren't going to do to try & save Margot. Margot settled in well, she is ridiculously affectionate, laid back & loving & now has the home of her dreams in the Cotswolds. She is so loved & adored, treated like the Princess she was always born to be, it blows our mind to think how different her life could have been.

Our Favourite 21-22 Adoptions

JADA'S RESCUE & ADOPTION WITH HER BEST FRIEND MIMI

JADA'S ONLY FAULT WAS THAT SHE LOVED HUMANS SO MUCH & WAS STARVING. SHE THOUGHT THEY WOULD GIVE HER THE FOOD, SHE DIDN'T EXPECT THEY WOULD THROW BOILING HOT FAT ON HER TO SHOO HER AWAY. JADA WAS THEN LEFT TO FEND FOR HERSELF WITH HER HORRENDOUS BURN INJURY, UNTIL SOMEONE POSTED HER ON THE STREETS ON A FACEBOOK ANIMAL GROUP & THE RANA TEAM SPOTTED HER...

We knew we had to help, so we did just that. Our RANA team on the ground rushed to her aid and with the support of our RANA donators we were able to pay for her large vet bills.

When Jada made a best friend in foster, we knew we had to find them a loving home together and after some time... we were able to do just that!

Mimi & Jada finally travelled to their forever home (via our foster team in Paris) and are now melting hearts in the UK. They are loving, playful & are completely adored by their owners. Jada's affection is now reciprocated & not met with abuse.

Charity Structure & Objectives

Type of Governing Doc: Charitable Trusts: Model Trust Deed GD2 How Charity is constituted: Trust

RANA'S GOALS & CHARITABLE OBJECTIVES

as set out in our Charity's Governing Document:

For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of animals, in particular dogs and cats, in Libya and Tunisia in need of care and attention and to promote humane behaviour towards such animals by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for such animals which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among such animals in North Africa.”

RANA'S TRUSTEES & ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

as set out in our Charity's Governing Document:

The RANA Charity is overseen by a board of trustees who are approved by the current serving board, none of these trustees are paid for their trusteeship (except for expenses related directly to the charity's activities). It is usually expected that at least one of our trustees travels to Tunisia to meet with fosters, rescuers and vets annually. These visits are important as the board of trustees are responsible for setting the strategic plan and direction of the charity. The trustees are responsible under the law of England and Wales for the correct & lawful operation of RANA. The board of Trustees operates and manages the RANA charity as a non-governmental, non-political, nonreligious organisation established in 2013.

The following people served for the full year ending April 5th 2022: Michaela Hutchinson Florence Heath Simona Farcas

All trustees serve until they feel they can no longer give the required time and commitment to the charity, as each trustee takes their responsibility to the governance very seriously. Due to the long distances involved to travel to meet face to face, most Trustee meetings are held via online video conferencing (usually Zoom or Whats App video) & recorded, although face to face meetings are arranged where possible.

RANA'S MAIN ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN FOR PUBLIC BENEFIT

in relation to the objectives set out in our Charity's Governing Document:

Throughout the year we have successfully rescued many animals (dogs and cats) from the streets of Tunisia who were starving and at risk of being shot or poisoned. In removing stray unwanted animals from the street we have provided a public benefit by reducing the risk of strays potentially causing car accidents, attacking the public when they are in their large packs and minimising the risk of disease, such as rabies (a huge concern in Africa) spreading.

We have also provided a public benefit to those people who have contacted us in distress at what they have seen, and have taken an interest in wanting to adopt, or save the animal.

We have also provided assistance to those few animal loving volunteers on the ground in Tunisia who frequently give up rooms in their homes to house stray animals, sacrifice feeding themselves in order to feed animals on the streets and who are in desperate need of support in a country which dedicates no Government funding or support to rescuing stray animals.

RANA'S MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE

throughout 2021- 2022

2021 - 2022 proved to be a really challenging year for RANA.

Covid-19 and Brexit continued to impact heavily on our logistics & Volunteer Team, both privately and in a volunteer capacity. We used this year to focus on prepping animals for travel and fundraising during a very difficult time. We worked on our database to ensure we are organised & fully prepared for when our team grows in the future. We also gained a valuable team member who has been working through the Gift Aid process; a task which will bring in more donations in that can be used to sterilise animals on the ground.

We were really proud that we managed to rehome 57 animals this year, even though it was our trickiest year yet.

We worked with different transporters, with varying degrees of success, but most importantly we refused to give up. With every set back, our committed team focused on the animals and rose to the next challenge.

We are working on a new range of Merchandise to bring in donations and widen our team of Social Media Coordinators so more people will know about our hardworking team and the difference we are making.

RANA'S FINANCIAL REVIEW

Charity's policy on reserves:

The RANA board of Trustees would like to hold £5,000 in reserve funds as back up for emergency vet bills, which we have managed to achieve this year.

Investment Policy:

The RANA board of trustees have no plans for an investment policy to be put in place as we do not hold funds for investment purposes.

Trustees responsibilities for the financial statement:

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees Report and the financial statements in accordance with the applicable law and United Kingdom accounting standards. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give an accurate view of the accounts in regard to income and expenditure.

The trustees in preparing these accounts for the year ending 5th April 2021 have applied the following:

Investment Policy:

The RANA board of trustees have no plans for an investment policy to be put in place as we do not hold funds for investment purposes.
