The trust meets to ensure that Gateshead Community Rowing Club meets this key objective and the objective remains the focus of both the Club and Trust.

The Trust can report that Gateshead Community Rowing Club is now fully open again after Covid. Through the use of social media and word of mouth the club has gained a number of new members this year. The club has over the last 12 months had a number of Ukranian’s who have moved into the area. They have had taster sessions of which a number have joined the club.

The committee have worked hard to meet the clubs objective to guarantee growth and its participation with its key activities and objectives.

The club continues to be committed to the provision of community sessions for disadvantaged groups, particularly those with learning disabilities and mental or physical health problems.

A boat building and maintenance session is still running and in the last year spent most of its time maintaining the boats at the club. There is no current boat build this year.

The club was fortunate to be given a grant of £10000 to help us through the

Covid pandemic. This was divided into three amounts a third was used to keep our membership costs the same as the previous year. A third was used in the maintenance and up keep of our buildings . And the final third was held in club funds for any emergences.

Rowing sessions for the community are held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays using the stable wooden rowing boats and sliding seat boats and continue to be well attended.

The club Coach will be able to continue to cater for both able body and adaptive rowers of all levels the club being the main club on the Tyne supplying adaptive rowing in both Skiff and Sculling boats with an ongoing training Program.

We hope to continue Sundays for competitive events. Also Recreational rowing remains very popular and in particular the coastal rowing sessions in the St Ayles skiff boats, where we occasionally join with other Northumberland Coastal Rowing clubs.

Membership

The club has succeeded to increase its membership over the last twelve months. The committee and members continue to promote the club and regularly have visitors to the club to try Skiff rowing.

Our Membership fees during the reporting period continue to be significantly lower than all other local British Rowing affiliated clubs, with adult membership at £72 per annum and £36 for juniors. Unwaged adults £60 and the club also awarded free membership to persons suffering financial hardship.
