Period of 1[st] October 2020 to 1[st] October 2021

Gateshead Community Rowing Club Charitable Incorporated Organisation Registration Number 1165971

Gateshead Community Rowing Club (the club) is based at Derwenthaugh Marina, Blaydon on Tyne, Gateshead. NE21 5LL

## **The trustees are:**

Gareth D H Bell – Chairman of Trustees

Janet Bell

Martin Wrate

The trust meet quarterly to review the growth and performance of Gateshead Community Rowing Club.

## **Activities and Objectives**

The objective of the Trust is:

The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation, in particular by the provision of facilities, encouragement and instruction in the sport of rowing, for the benefit of the inhabitants of Gateshead and surrounding areas. The trust meets to ensure that Gateshead Community Rowing Club meets this key objective and the objective remains the focus of both the Club and Trust.

The Trust can report that Gateshead Community Rowing Club has like every other organisation had a difficult couple of years because of the Covid 19 Lockdown making it impossible to open up for its members, however the committee has insured the survival of the club through Covid 19 Grants and the retention of its members. Only two members have left through the pandemic.

Due to the hard work of the committee the club has re opened and continues to meet its objective growth and its participation with these key activities and objectives.

The club continues to be committed to the provision of community sessions for disadvantaged groups, particularly those with learning disabilities and mental or physical health problems.

A boat building and maintenance session is still running and in the last year has completed the build of a second dory. The Dory will provide future crews with similar opportunities as they work together to take her on the water.

Rowing sessions for the community are held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays using the stable wooden rowing boats and sliding seat boats and continue to be well attended.

The club Coach will be able to continue to cater for both able body and adaptive rowers of all levels the club being the main club on the Tyne supplying adaptive rowing in both Skiff and Sculling boats with an ongoing training Program.

We hope to continue Sundays for competitive events when they recommence. Also Recreational rowing remains very popular and in particular the coastal rowing sessions in the St Ayles skiff boats, where we occasionally join with other Northumberland Coastal Rowing clubs.

## **Membership**

The club has succeeded to increase its membership over the last twelve months. The committee and members continue to promote the club and regularly have visitors to the club to try Skiff rowing.

Our Membership fees during the reporting period continue to be significantly lower than all other local British Rowing affiliated clubs, with adult membership at £72 per annum and £36 for juniors. Unwaged adults £60 and the club also awarded free membership to persons suffering financial hardship.

## **Financial Report**

The club has a community account with Barclays Bank, there is no overdraft or credit facility meaning that the club is unable to get into debt. In addition two signatures are required to draw funds. The club has two income sources: grants and membership fees.

The verified annual accounts for the club are attached and cover the period of October 2020 to October 2021.There are no funds held by custodian trustees. The club retains about £7500 in their account remaining from grant money as membership fees cover most running costs. The Committee have decided to keep a percentage of this money for emergency and the rest will be spent on improvement to the club facilitys.

## **Grants received this period.**

A small business rate relief / charity grant of £10000 from Gateshead M B C. No other Grants have been applied for this year.
