• The trustees are:
Gareth D H Bell – Chairman of Trustees
Janet Bell
Martin Wrate
The following trustee retired during the reporting period.
Carol Croft
Charlie Parker
The trust meet quarterly to review the growth and performance of Gateshead Community Rowing Club.
• Activities and Objectives
The objective of the Trust is:
The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation, in particular by the provision of facilities, encouragement and instruction in the sport of rowing, for the benefit
of the inhabitants of Gateshead and surrounding areas. The trust meets to ensure that Gateshead Community Rowing Club meets this key objective and the objective remains the focus of both the Club and Trust.
The Trust can report that Gateshead Community Rowing Club has like every other organisation had a difficult year because of the Covid 19 Lockdown making it impossible to open up for its members, however the committee has insured the survival of the club through Covid 19 Grants and the retention of its members. Only two members have left through the pandemic.
Due to the hard work of the committee the club will continue to meet its objective growth and its participation with these key activities and objectives.
The club continues to be committed to the provision of community sessions for disadvantaged groups, particularly those with learning disabilities and mental or physical health problems.
A boat building and maintenance session is run on Mondays. We are continuing building a second 3 person wooden Dory rowing boat that is light and stable which will be used by the group after the build is complete. The build has been delayed due to lockdown but is very close to completion. We continue to encourage the involvement of young people in team work and shared objectives, improving their spans of attention.
The Dory will provide future crews with similar opportunities as they work together to take her on the water. Rowing sessions for the community are held every Thursday using the stable wooden rowing boats and continue to be well attended.
Through the addition of a new Head Coach we will be able to continue to cater for both able body and adaptive rowers of all levels the club being the main club on the Tyne supplying adaptive rowing in both Skiff and Sculling boats with an ongoing training Program.
When allowed the Club will recommence all sessions. Monday maintenance, Tuesday evening row, Thursday lunch time row with meal and Saturday as main coaching session.
We hope to continue Sundays for competitive events when they recommence. Also Recreational rowing remains very popular and in particular the coastal rowing sessions in the St Ayles skiff boats, where we occasionally join with other Northumberland Coastal Rowing clubs and are looking forward to that in 2021.
The Club also welcome back Brian Forbes and his Veterans Group to be part of GCRC. They have aprox. 15 to 20 members and currently are refurbishing a sailing boat as their own project on a Thursday. Brian has joined the committee to represent the Vets and has also encouraged a number of them to take up rowing.
• Trustees
Over the period we have had two Trustees step down. Charlie Parker who was Chair of the Trustees and Carol Croft who has also resigned from the club. We thanked both Charlie for his time as Chairman and are very happy that he remains a hard working member of the Club and his continued lead in the current boat build. We also thanked Carol as a former founder of the Club and Head Coach for everything she has done to get the Club to were it is today.
We welcome Martin Wrate onto the Trustee board as Club Treasurer. We are also looking for at least one more Trustee to join.
• Financial Report
The club has a community account with Barclays Bank, there is no overdraft or credit facility meaning that the club is unable to get into debt. In addition two signatures are required to draw funds. The club has two income sources: grants and membership fees.
