CUMNOR CHORAL SOCIETY Charity Number 1165970

TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR ENDED 31ST JULY 2021

The Society became a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) number 1165970, on 10 March 2016. Prior to this date it had existed but without CIO registration.

The object of the CIO is to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of choral music in all its aspects by the presentation of public choral concerts, and by other such means as the CIO, through its management committee, may from time to time determine.

The management of the Society is vested in an Executive Committee comprising the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Musical Director. Trustees: Alan Poulter, Helen Reid, Phillippa Sandford, Stephen Kinsey (from January 2020).

Committee Chair: John May Secretary: Rosie Smith Treasurer: Stephen Kinsey Musical Director: Peter Foster

The principal address of the Society is: 55 The Cloisters, Pegasus Grange, White House Road, OXFORD, OX1 4QQ.

Since the income of the Society is below £25,000, there is no requirement for its accounts to be independently examined by an accountant. However, for the sake of good order the accounts have been so examined and they were approved by the Executive Committee on 20 May 2022.

Activities for the year

The resumption of weekly rehearsals in the autumn term of 2020 was prevented by the Covid-19 pandemic. To enable members to continue to sing together and to learn new music, a series of Zoom meetings were organised and held. We sang Stanford’s Te Deum, Schubert’s Mass in G and Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens.

With the aim of raising awareness of the Society, supporting local musicians and providing some benefit to the local community, a virtual Christmas Concert was commissioned by the Society, with costs being borne from existing Society funds. The recording was made available online via YouTube in December 2020. In January 2021, a further series of Zoom meetings was held and we sang some of Purcell’s Odes and some choruses from Handel’s Messiah.

The Trustees have taken due account of the public benefit guidance of the

Charity Commission.

Notes to the accounts for the year ended 31st July 2021

1. The bank statements are checked regularly by the Chair and Treasurer against paper copies of paid invoices including conductor's and management fees.

2. The deficit for the year was £1,198.72, owing to the Covid-10 pandemic. There was no subscription income because there were no meetings of the Society.

3. The Committee wishes to express, on behalf of all the members, its gratitude to various donors who contributed £511.28 to the Society’s reserves.

4. The Financial Reserves Policy approved by the committee is to hold enough cash in reserve to fund one concert. At current cost levels, this is equivalent to approximately £3,000, so that the actual reserves of £3,606.11 at 31st July 2021 are slightly in excess of this policy.
