BSURF has drop ins for our clients lo engage In social skills thfough recreational activities eg.. pool and darts. We provNJe a safe therapeutic environment to engage with fellow recovering addicts, they can enjoy a hot drink. and il allows Ihgm lo havc a ccnlral rr,ccling point. We have expanded our mutual aid pioposilion to not only include ACT recovery bul also SMART recovery and the hope group as-well as our Friday 'che¢k-in'. We have expanded our crealive projecls and have engagement once again in day trips lo support a healthy lifestyle. We have taken the opportunity lo train some volunteers, and this has resulted in them gaining college qualifications and in particular food hygiene certifications. We have utilised funds to widen the scope of awareness and have a weekly group in the Horwich area now making connections lo the wider community through local churches offering our members and local parishioncrs trc c.Ypcricnco of witnessing real success stories in recovery. Achievements and Performance BSURF is a Mutual Aid organisalion based in Bolton. 11 is run by and for clients and former clients of the Drug and Alcohol Services.11 is a responsive organisalion whose modus operandi is to iespond lo and meet the ngods of those sufferirTrg and recovering from addiction. Our currènt location has been slowly developed with a corporate branding of signage, marf(eling material and even our minibus being decorated in the corporale colours. This year has been a strugglè. Th8 commissioners in the town are keen to resliucture and funding is a struggle. There is a new service Provider imminent This has resulted in a slowdown of new clients calling in to BSURF. We have continued to build on our successes and introduced more trips out. OUT focus slill remains in giving peopl8 a safe place as well as engaging our members in an extensive range ol aclivilies. opportunilies for'sell- development. and most importantly the chance lo become part of a positive social nelwork of people who are striving towards similar goals - lo maintain and achieve abstinence Iiom drugs and alcohol. BSURF has become an intrinsic part of the Drug and Alcohol offei in Bollon. BSURF'S Modus Operandi is to recognise that although formal services provide a vital support to formal drug and alcohol sorvices. We recognise that as good as formal services are in Bolton their contact wilh clients can only ever be relatively Ileeting. Recovery is 24 hours a day 365 days a year. We are consiantly reviewing our offer to ensure that it meets the needs of our client base. Specifically. our aim is to ensure that BSURF gives our clients 2 sense of fun. We understand that addiction Is often the result of trauma and unfortunately some of our clients have experienced multiple traumatic events and life experiences that have directly led to them in effect 'self_medicaling'. What has worked well for us this year. What were the challenges. The weekly drop ins and the mutual aid groups including the Church activities work well. It's always a challenge to make sure our clients are engaged with SeiCe5 if they are in parly rernvery, so we encourage that they have a worker in the drug and alcohol services at Achieve. We still partner with others to bring awareness of the destructive natUTe of addiction. The music group is always a great success to get people enjoying life again and our annual pool competitions brings Joy to everyone who takes part. We have shown initiative to encourage rnembers throughoul the year5 to volunteer for BSURF and to see a 'career recognition track. in volunteering for BSURF. We have put on fund raisers at Chri%tmas In prnmnlp hpalihy livin¢J hftpr addirtinn and help remove the stigma of addiction. We have reintroduced our successful Breakfast/brunch club. Through this we will be able to provide a safe and relaxed environment and further breakdown stigma and barriers associated with addictions. We can engage members and encourage them to look at obtaining the tood hygiene qualification so they can help with the delivery of the breakfast lo other members and to gain a qualification and skill they can use in later life.
