Financial Year 2023/2024

## _Retirement and removal of charity trustees_

Financial Year 2023/2024

## **Financial review**

## **Financial Year Ending 5 April 2024:**

- Receipts: £28,053

- Payments: £28,882

- Net Cash Flow: -£830

- Closing Balance: £24,560

There was a small net outflow during the year leaving a healthy level of reserves in place. A small profit was made on running events in the year and we received higher donations than the prior year. This additional income was primarily spent on marketing for events and marketing consultancy to update our website and brand online.

## **Variance Explanation**

Donations increased during FY23/24 by £1,058 due to engagement picking up now we’re running our main events again alongside the refreshed marketing. Donations are still well below preCovid-19 levels, however, which limits the activities we can run. Recognizing this challenge, the organization has planned to employ a dedicated individual in FY24/25 to conduct community discovery and implement strategies to increase donations.

## **Reserves Policy**

Shift Nation’s reserves policy is to maintain sufficient funds to cover at least six months of core operational expenses. This ensures that the charity can continue its essential activities and meet its commitments in the event of unforeseen circumstances. The reserves as at the end of the FY23/24 of £24,560 provide a strong platform for planned activities and growth.

## **Independent Examination**

The accounts for FY23/24 have been independently examined by a certified accountant in the UK. This process ensures compliance with accounting standards and provides assurance to stakeholders about the accuracy and transparency of the financial statements.

## **Public benefit statement**

When planning activities for the year, the trustees ensure they have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charities Commission (including but not limited to):

- Public Benefit: the public benefit requirement (September 2013)

- Public Benefit: running a charity (September 2013)

- Public Benefit: reporting (September 2013)

- The Advancement of Religion for the Public Benefit (December 2008)

- The Prevention or Relief of Poverty for the Public Benefit (December 2008)

- CC15b – Charity Reporting and Accounting: The essentials (January 2013)

Financial Year 2023/2024

The majority of events are open to the public and are publicised on our website and/or via social media and by emailed announcements. Those connected to the charity are encouraged to invite friends, as it is a key aim of Shift Nation to attract newcomers into its various activities so that they can participate in and benefit from all that it has to offer.

## **Objectives and activities**

The objects of the charity are to advance the Christian religion for the benefit of the public through the holding of prayer meetings, lectures, religious festivals, producing literature and media on Christianity to enlighten others, especially but not exclusively young adults in the 20/30 age group, about the Christian religion.

## **Achievement and performance**

In FY23/24, Shift Nation successfully hosted two major events:

1. **Weekend Away (222 attendees):** This gathering focused on spiritual formation and included workshops on:

   - The impact of AI and technology on Christians

   - Entrepreneurship and innovation

   - Building healthy families

   - Men's mental health

Feedback from attendees included:

   - _"Was great to be back and spend time connecting and listening."_

   - _"This was my first Shift, and I absolutely LOVED it! It was fantastic, felt like a very safe place with lots of such lovely people all meeting with Jesus together. Really special, I’ve never encountered a Christian festival as intimate yet SUCH high quality, from the worship, to the food, to the incredible volunteers arranging it all! So good. I’ll be back next year for sure!"_

2. **New Year’s Gathering (172 attendees):** This event emphasized the importance of emotionally and spiritually healthy hearts as the community recovered from the changes brought by COVID-19 and evolving cultural dynamics.

Feedback included:

- _"Thank you for everyone’s hard work. My first Shift and I loved it."_

These events marked a significant return to in-person gatherings and were instrumental in reengaging the Shift Nation community.

## **Future plans**

Looking ahead to FY24/25, Shift Nation will:

- Continue hosting the **Weekend Away Gathering** as a cornerstone event.

- Employ a dedicated individual to explore opportunities to grow Shift’s impact and outreach.

- Pause the **New Year’s Eve Gathering** to redirect focus and resources.

Financial Year 2023/2024

These plans are in alignment with Shift Nation’s mission to captivate its generation with the vision of God and to shape culture through spiritual growth and community building.
