The Trustees present their Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 25 November 2024.

This report has been prepared in accordance with the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and sets out how the Trustees have fulfilled their legal and regulatory obligations. The accompanying Financial Statements are also fully compliant with SORP and detail the charity’s incoming resources and resources expended during the year.

Objectives and Activities

The principal objective of the charity is the prevention or relief of poverty and financial hardship either generally or individually anywhere in the world for the public benefit. This is achieved through the provision, or assistance in the provision, of education, training, healthcare, and other forms of support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and become selfsufficient.

Our core charitable activities include:

Installation of clean water infrastructure (e.g. water pumps, wells, and solar water systems)
Supporting the local food bank
Orphan sponsorship programmes
Annual Ramadan food pack distribution
Annual Qurbani meat distribution
Hot meals for the poor and needy
Clothing distribution
Masjid re-building projects to create community spaces
Construction of homes for impoverished families
Zakat distribution to the most vulnerable
Emergency aid and refugee relief
Distribution of educational materials
Supporting the local food bank

In setting objectives and planning activities, the Trustees have given due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

In line with our charitable aims, we undertook a broad range of impactful humanitarian activities. The global landscape continues to be challenged by natural disasters, conflicts, and mass displacement, reinforcing the critical need for sustained charitable interventions.

Thanks to the unwavering generosity of our donors, we have reached thousands of individuals with vital support including food, hygiene, shelter, and empowerment opportunities:

We continue to build on the success of our clean water project. This year was a tremendous success—we successfully provided and installed thousands of water pumps and community solar water wells in some of the most deprived areas of Sindh, Pakistan. - Our daily community Iftar project was also a great success. We provided daily Iftar meals to the poorest and most vulnerable during Ramadan. With increasing numbers of beneficiaries, the initiative brought joy, relief, and a strong sense of unity to all who participated.
Our yearly Qurbani project in providing sacrificial meat was again highly impactful. We successfully distributed Qurbani meat to thousands of families across multiple regions. Beneficiary numbers increased this year, and the joy and gratitude expressed by recipients was overwhelming. The growing trust and support from donors reflects their confidence in the transparency and effectiveness of our work.
Thousands of families benefited from our Ramadan food pack distributions and hot meals programmes.
Our “Rozgar” livelihood programme enabled individuals to achieve sustainable income and greater independence.
In Uganda, we successfully completed the construction of 32 homes for disadvantaged families in rural areas. Due to the success of this initiative and the continued support of our donors, we have now commenced the construction of an additional 15 homes to further support vulnerable communities.

Our efforts continue to focus on making a tangible, lasting difference in the lives of those most in need.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Charity is regulated by a constitution dated February 2017 and is operated entirely by volunteers.

Appointment of Charity Trustees:

Trustees are appointed through a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment, the trustees take into account the skills, knowledge, and experience required for the effective administration of the charity.

Financial Review and Reserves Policy

The charity’s funds are sufficient to enable continued operation in the medium to long term, supported by ongoing donor contributions. Our aim is to distribute funds efficiently and expediently in accordance with the objectives of the charity.

There are no uncertainties regarding the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern.

The Trustees actively monitor and assess major risks, maintaining a comprehensive risk assessment that is reviewed at every meeting. The Trustees are satisfied that adequate systems and procedures are in place to manage any risks identified.

The Trustees would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all supporters for their moral and financial assistance, and hope for their continued support in the future.

Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and Financial Statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (UK GAAP).

The law applicable in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year that give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of its incoming resources and application of resources during that period.

In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently
Observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP
Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent
State whether applicable UK accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements
Prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue operating

The Trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the charity’s transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy its financial position. They are also responsible for safeguarding the charity’s assets and taking reasonable steps to detect and prevent fraud and other irregularities.

The Trustees are also responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the charity’s financial information published on its website, in accordance with legislation in the United Kingdom.

HOPE FOR MANKIND INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT

We report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity for the year ended 25 November 2024.

Respective Responsibilities of trustees and examiner

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

We report in respect of my examination of the Hope for Mankind’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

The charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 and we are qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member accountant of one of the prescribed bodies.

We have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

• the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

• the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

• the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

We have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1 Statutory information

HOPE FOR MANKIND is a charity registered with the number 1165931.

The registered office is Suite 17B, Bridgewater House, Surrey Road, Nelson, Lancashire, BB9 7TZ.

2 Compliance with accounting standards

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective from 01 January 2019) – (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.

3 Accounting policies

The principal accounting policies adopted in the preparation of the financial statements are set out below and have remained unchanged from the previous year, and also have been consistently applied within the same accounts.

Basis of preparation

The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention as modified by the revaluation of certain fixed assets.

Presentation currency

The accounts are presented in £ sterling.
