and other finance

The objectives of the charity have been to continue and deepen the charity’s ability to help children in Bhutan either from disadvantaged rural areas or with specific mental or physical disabilities. The primary way to achieve these objectives is through achievable, tangible educational and medicinal initiatives, working in collaboration with existing Bhutanese structures. Working with such partner organisations enables Opening your Heart to Bhutan to ensure its projects or donated assets reach larger groups of children most effectively.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

The Opening your Heart to Bhutan activities this year will have improved life opportunities for over 300 disabled and/or disadvantaged children and a further 250 children in poor rural schools. Many of these children have benefitted from the installation of clean water filters in their schools, some of which have been funded in collaboration with the Openwork Foundation. We have continued to support the training of young blind musicians at the Blind Musicians training centre in Thimpu, supporting the rent for their building and access to training. We have provided educational materials for the two Vocational Training schools we support in Bhutan

The CEO and all Trustees are acquainted with the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and the advice contained within consistently informs their decisions when undertaking new activities.

The contribution made by volunteers in the UK is of vital importance. Besides the CEO and Trustees, all of whom give their time and energy freely, there is a pool of supporters who are called upon to provide a wide range of functions necessary to the ongoing life of the charity including IT support, marketing materials, fundraising initiatives and individual sponsored events.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.
