Aireborough Voluntary Servlces to the Elderly (AVSEDI was registered as a Cha￿table company In 2015. The charlty is
governed by a Memornndum and Artlcles of Assoclatlon as amended by a 5pedal resolutlon on 19th February 2016.
The assets and contratts of the previous tharty {￿reborough Voluntary Servlces to the Elderly with Dlsabllltles -
charlty number 1048902, In operatlon ￿nce June 1992) were transferred to th15 new entlty on l Aprll 2016.
AVSED employed eight pald workers durlng thls flnancbal year to help c4ry out its dlverse artI¥￿[e5. headed up by the
Scheme Manager.

voted onto the Board for a mlnlmum of 3 years. The Inductlon and tralnlng of TnJ5tees are carrled out by the
Chalmian, supported by the Vlce Chalr. All Trustees glve thelr tlme voluntartly and recelve no remuneratlon or other
beneflts. The Board meets on at least 10 occaslons per year, and meetlngs Indude the Schemè Manager. 2 local
Counclllors 51t on the Board meetlngs In an adv150ry capaclty.
Although AVSED Is an Independent reglstered charlty, It works wlthln the Leeds Older People's Nelghbourhood
Network
one of 35 separate organlsatlons Spread attoss the clty to support older people Ilvlng Independently.
AVSED Is part of the Local Core Partnershlp {LCP) and 'Alreborough Togetherf the Local Communlty Anchor.
AVSED Is currently developlng Its Polldes and Procedure5 followlng a fvll organlsatlonal restructure. The Artlcles of
Associatlon set out our purpose and alms to slt alongslde a new 5-year Strategy coverlng 2023 - 2028.
AVSED Board of Trustees provlde mlnutes of thelr ff*etlngs. along v•lth a budget, cash fflow forecast, and managerlal
reports. Annually the Board meets at the AGM and provldes detalls to our beneflclartes regardlng the prevlous year,
artlons and accountablllty. AVSED has a Treasurer who prOV￿eS Ilnandal analysis and our flnandal statements are
Independently examlned annually. AVSED has employed the servke5 Of Penln5ula to support our HR and H&5
prartlces.
The Board of Trustees have conducted Its own revlew of the major rlsks to whlch the charlty Is exposed Jnd has taken
steps to establlsh systems to mltlgate those rlsks. The Trustees conslder thls to be an ongolng process.
The Trustees conslder the Chair and Scheme Manager as comprlslng the key management personnel of the charlty In
charge of dlrectlng and controlllng the charlty and runnlng and operatlng the chartty on a day-to-day basls.
The pay olthe chadty's staff Is dependent on the grant source from whlch the sakryry Is paTrd. The Manager, Co-
Ordlnators, and Leads are on permanent contrarts subject to fundlng. 2 staff on Ilmlted contracts. All employee5 are
pald In accordance wlth Local Authorltles NJC scales.

AVSED'S mernbership was 784 ot the perlod end. AVSED offers membership to those over 60 years in the boundary
area of LS19 & LS20. Referrals come from varlous sources indudln9 neighbours, frlends, famllles, GP sijrgeries and
varlous other NHS professlonals, Sodal Workers and Adult Soclal Care personnel, varknus departments of the NHS.
Soclal Pres¢ylblng Teams (Llnking Leeds), Memory Support Worker5. and self-referrals.
We endeavor to support all oliier residents. famlty. and carers as approprlate to support Independent Ilvlng and relleve
Isolatlon and loneliness.

We strlve to achleve the hlghest fundralslng standard and value all our supporters. We stay up to date wlth
developments In charity regulations, data protertlon. and the Fundralslng Preference Service (FPS) to ensure we are
legally compllant an(J adherlng to guldelines. No complalnts have been recelved about fvndralslng in this financlal
year.

AVSED have developed a new 5-year 5tr*egy which will devekjp our fijndralslng efftjrts and support work that wlll
encourage self-sufficiency and avold over rellance on specthc fundlng avenues.
The flnances of the chartty are satisfactory based on the cu￿nt financlal cllmate we are enijurlng. The net Incorne for
the year was £79.137, 12023 net expendlture of (E40,060). At 31 March 2023, the total fijnds of the charlty were
£219.588 (2023 £140,451).

The mènagement committee has establrshed a pollcy whereby the unrestrkted funds not committed or Invested in
tanglble assets (the free reserves) held by the charity should be around three months of expendlture. whlch equates
to É80.000 in general funds. At thls level. the management committee feels that it would be able to contlnue the
current artlvltles of the charlty in the event of a signmcant dmp In fiJndlng. At present. the free reserves, which
amount to £133,921. exceed thls level. but the management committee Is aware of the need to contlnually conslder
ways In whlch additional unrestricted fvnds can be r41sed as extsting fvndlng streams may change In the future years.

Al￿bOrOugh Voluntary Servkes to the Elderly Is a reglstered charlty and as such Is a charlty w￿h1n the meanlng of
Schedule 6 of the Finance Art 2010. Accordinglyi the Charity is potentlally entrtled to tax exemptbon under part
11 of the Corporatlon Tax Art 2010 or sectlon 256 of the Taxatlon of Charyeable Gains Art 1992 in respect of
Income and galns arlslng.
In the appllcatlon of the tharity's accovntlng pollcles. the Trustees are reqylryd to make Judgments, estlmates, and
assumptlons about the carrylng amotsnt of assets and Ilabllltles that are not readlly apparent from other sources. The
èstlmates and assoclated assumptlons are based on h15torlcal experlence and other tactor5 that are consldered to be
relevant. Attual results may dlffer from these estlmates.
The estlm*es and underfylng assumptlons are revlewed on an on9olng basls. Revlslons to accountlng estlmates are
recognlsed In the perlod In whlch the estlmate Is revlsed If the revlslon affects only that perlod, or In the perfod of the
revlslon and future pe￿0d5 ff the re¥lslon affetts both current and fvture perlods.
There are no estlmates and assumptlons that have a $lgnfflcant rlsk of causlng a materlal adjustment to the cJrrylng
amount of assets and Ilabllltles.
