Stradbroke Trust – Annual Report May 2022 to April 2023
Another successful year at the allotments with all plots let. Mary Thompson’s continuing enthusiasm and hard work running various events as well as supporting the group as a whole has proved paramount. Also, in large part, due to Mary we have agreed with the allotment group that they will take on care of the orchard trees and possibly introduce some bee hives.
The Trust was pleased to be invited to work with Stradbroke Sports & Community Centre on the Queen’s Green Canopy project -originally meant to be a joint effort between SSCC and the Parish Council. The financial cost to the Trust was small (approximately £300) but all trustees were able to ‘enjoy’ 3 planting sessions in the rain on two sites in the village. One site will be a small woodland the other is primarily a wild flower meadow with a few trees and the results were already visible this spring with a glorious splash of colour. The Trust has agreed to look after the maintenance of both sites with occasional grass cutting and checking tree stakes and guards. Special thanks to Jane for her persistence in seeing this project through to completion.
The transfer of the bank account to the Co-operative bank has proven worthwhile and thanks to our treasurer we collected all the rents on time.
Finally, my thanks to all trustees for continuing their support through the year. Last year I wrote that I would be standing down but still I’m in the chair. I will not attempt a forecast this time.
At the time of writing I have been advised that Trust will shortly be receiving a donation of cover £2,000 from the Stradbroke All Stars group that has now formerly closed. With this extra resource I’m sure the Trust will be able to create further benefits for the community in the coming years.
