Roofbre8ker8 Is now8n item on Church Council Agenda. This is used to prompt questions
and highlight issues that have been addressed.
2. Disability Awareness tfalning session by Zoom took place on 12 June. There was good
attendance, 34 people, and helptul inter8Ctive discussions. The main benefit of the
presentation by the Through the Roof Team was increased awareness of disabilities we
are likely to encounter.

CHURCH COUNCIL OF ST. FRANCIS, CHURCH, VALLEY PARK SC-LEP
3. Improvements to Accessible toilet. There are now proper soap dispensers in both toilets.
A mirror to waist level has been put into the Disabled Toilet for the benefit of wheelch8ir
users. Many thanks to Andy Grove for undertaking these tasks.
4. AV. There have been improvements in the 18yOUt of song Words and Bible texts. Many
thanks to the t8am for their ongoing work on thls.
5. There was use of British Sign Language in one carol atthe Carol Service. This was initiated
byst Francis School and wasverywelcome.
Further achieyeme.nLS: an Access AuditW8s undertaken In August by Christine and Helen Kelso.
The key matters wer8 81gnago le8dingto and around the church, poslers 8dvertising ourevents,

Slgnage: Five new Signs were made.. two replaced old slgns which now include the dove hands

Poster8: noti¢eboards at th8 entrance to the car park and both church entrance points Idouble

wlll be an ongoing need to keep th8m up to date.
Car park.. land belong8 to the Diocese. General upkeep of the car park is the responsibility of the
school groundsman. The fading whSte lines which need ren8wing have been ralsed wlth the
Diocese in conjunction with Hampshire Highw8ys. This is import8nt in clarifying which 15 the
entrance, and which is the exit. At tim8 of writing it Ss hopeL1 to increase the number of Disabled

Control of Iightlng times in the car park is through St Fr8n¢is School. Anyone running an evenlng
evènt at ohurch and wantin8 to extend the lighting beyond 9pm needs to contact the school
admin office. The new School Business Manager Eleanor Edwards has been very helpful in all
C8rpark m8tter$ and is a good contact for ongoing issues.
F tpritits. a significant step has been taken by our Children & Families Mlnister H8nn8h in
setting up 'Footprints" a group for families Wlth children with addltional needs. IThis has not
been Instigated bythe Roofbieakers team but is entirely in keeping with its aspirations for a more
inclusive church and warrants a mention here.)

l. Regarding automatic doors to the Disabled Toilet and Front Door (by kitchen), quotes are
currently being sought. This matter has come io the fore since one of our church
members needs this automatic assistance to enter the building.
2. Further improvement and development ofAV overheads.
3. Further use of Makaton l BSL at special gervices. Eg could we perhaps learn The Lord's

Chlldren and FamlUo¥ Mlni8ter Role- Hannah Hlg¢o¢k
Thanks to the warm welcom8 and excellent SL*PPQrt I received on 8tartSng in p08t at St Fr8ncl8,1
quickly lelt settled in this new rolel During the first three months, I took on the leadership ol the
junior Church and Messy Church, got involved in the All Age ServiGe$. I sterted to lead school
assemblies and build rel8tlon8hips with the wonderful attendees at Wednesd8y Café.
Once I felt established in these areas, it was time to $t8rt looklng ahead. Keeping in mind the big
he8rt St Francis has for welcome and incluslon. and using the knowledge ond skills from my
previou8 career in Children's Nursing. i Started to consider the 5UPPOrt that children with
additional needs, and their families, could receive throLJgh St Francis Church.
In mSd-July. I held 8 focus group wlth partlClP8nts who have experience leither Ilved or through
their workl of the needs of children with complexitles. ¥dditlonal needs or 18arnin8 di88bilities.
The discusslons w8re enlightening and the wisdom shared w88 inv81u8ble. Using the outcomes
of the group. alongside a generou3 grsnt for re80ur¢eg from Te$tValley Borough Council. the ide8
ot the additional needs group evolved.
The new group w85 named 'FootprSntS' 8nd two pilot sessions were held in October and
November. The group, which is designed for under 55 Wlth addition81 needs with their
paTents/carers. is a tree play and support group wher6 parents of 811 faiths and none c8n meet In
8 warm and friendly space with otherg In slm118r sitU9tions to themselves. The pilots were
su¢ce5sful and helped both me 8nd the newly formed team of brillianl volunteer5 to realise the
vlslon of the group and understand the Import8nce of wldespread publicity.
Sharpening the foGus on additional needs has led to other developments throughout the year. In
September, the Calrn Zone was introduced at Messy Church. The sm811 meeting room was
transformed into a qul&t space with soft lighting. cozy blanketg and plllows, sensory lights. fiddle
toys and ear delender5 for those who sometimes find the busyness of Messy Church
overwhelming and need a quiet escape. Th8 zone h88 proven Its worrh. generatlng positive
feedback and it 13 now a regular part of Messy Church.
In addition, l introduced a new activity box pgcked full of fiddle toys. wind up toys and puzzle
games which is used during Junior Church, Messy Church and on occasions during services and
assemblies. The box has proved populor with adults and children and is used for both play and
distraction.
Please pray for Footprints, that the group will flourish in 2024 and that St Fr8llcis will continue to
be a place where individual needs are met and everyone feels included.

Financial Ovérview
Treasurer's Report on 2023 year-end figures
Whilst our overall income in 2023 was £168.760 and only £2.000 below our budget, the reality is
that General Giving was over £12,000 les8 than In 2022 when giving for the Children & Families
Minister is stripped out. This is a cause for concern as our costs continue to rise so will n8ed a
pr8yerful re$pong8 from the whole church family in 2024.
On a more positive note, we have received a further substantial donation specifically towards
Sust8inability Projects, particularly ihe installation of Solar Panels. As such this sum plus the
888OClÈted Gift Aid has been placed in a restricted fund, the Sustain8bility Fund. The ¢apit81 is
not shown in the Financial Statement as it does riot form part of the General Fund but is shown
in the Fund St8tements further down tho Fin8ncial St8tement pages. Th55 tund now slands at over
£20,000 8nd it is hoped that we c8n progress the provision of solar panels In 2024. This will be of
great benefit to the church as our eleGtricity costs aro consider8ble.
As a result of Income received. we have been able to tithe 8 total of £1 S,957 this year. This is
comprised of £268 from our Benevolent Fund to people in need in the loc81 area, £12,500 shared
between our five designated charities 8nd the remainder to th8 Methodist and URC churches,
our LEP partners.
As we have alway8 done, w8 have been able to pay our Pari8h Share in full which is greatly
8ppreci8ted by the Diocese. For 2023 the P8ri$h Share Increased by £3.410 to £70.623.
There ar8 a coupl8 of 8reag where expendltur8 has exc88ded the budget figure, 8nd our overall
operatlonal expenditure Is up over £10,000 on 2022. General malntenance 18 over in large part to
a number of one-off iterns. In particular, more th8n £2,000 was spent on a full church 818Ctrlc81
Inst8118tion Survey and some iemedial works resulting from thls.
Utlllty bills are still an area of concern, The g8s is now on track wlth payments covering
expendlture. However, the electricity 18 Still in arreers due to the very18X attitude of SSE. After my
o formgl complaints they finally increased the monthly payments in September 80 hopefully
by the end 012024 vve will be up to date.
Some of you may be asking wh8re the costs of the patio work show in the figures. This ¢ost falls
outside of the General Fund as payment came from our Maintenance Fund res8rves. Th18 Is why
we 8im to move funds into this each year in order to be able to pay for such projects.
Unfortunately, due to lower gener81 giving and higher expenses we have been unable to tr8nsfer
anything to tha Maintenance Reserve Fund in 2023. Because of this the M8intenance fund hBs
reduced to £38.193. All the tund stetemenls are shown below the Fin8ncial Statement.
After 811 the above the Gener81 Fund has reduced by £7.325 during 2023.
I would like to givethanks lorthe generoslty ol all the church family. Withoutyou the church could
not function.
Andy.
