The Trustees present their report together with the financial statements for the period 1[st] April 2023 to 31[st] March 2024. 

## **A. Reference and Administration** 

Surrey Special Needs Ski and Outdoor Learning Charity (working name: SPENSOL) is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organization number **1165674** , formed under a constitution and entered on to the Charities Register 22[nd] February 2016 with a principal address at 19 Bell Meadow, Godstone, RH9 8ED.

## **B. Structure governance and management** 

- (1) The charity is governed by constitution. 

- (2) The charity is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organization. 

- (3) Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. 

- (4) In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO. 

## **C. Objectives and activities** 

The objects of the Charity are the relief of young people between the ages of 5-20 with disabilities and/or special needs by the provision of facilities and information for recreation or other leisure time occupation, in particular through the provision of skiing activities, in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of such persons. 

SPENSOL’s main activity is the annual Ski Trip to Prato Nevoso in Italy and whilst charitable status was only achieved in 2016, the first Surrey Special Needs ski journey took place in 1998.

## **D. Achievements and performance** 

Recovery after the COVID-19 Pandemic continues with the second post pandemic Ski-trip to Prato Nevoso in 2024 and our 25[th] trip since the first one in 1998. 

Whilst the trip has not recovered to pre-pandemic numbers, we were still able to take 69 Students from 9 Surrey and 1 Sussex based special schools. The students were accompanied by 46 Staff, 34 from the schools and 12 independent, experienced volunteers, including 3 Nurses and 4 trustees, through SPENSOL. 

The annual trips are funded by a combination of parental contributions, school fundraising and SPENSOL grants. SPENSOL raises funds from direct grants, donations, and fund-raising events. SPENSOL does not have any employees and does not expect to require any, it is run through the voluntary help of the trustees and sub-committee members. SPENSOL is very grateful to all those who give their time for the benefit of young people with disabilities. 

## **E. Financial Review** 

In accordance with Charity Commission requirements, the trustees and executive committee members are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose, with reasonable accuracy at any time, the financial position of the organization. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the association and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. 

The trustees and executive committee have prepared the statements for the current period on a Receipts and Payments basis. Any reserves are used for the ongoing activities of the organization in furtherance of its charitable objectives. 

## **Results for the year** 

In the period to 31st March 2024 the charity had receipts from schools, fundraising and donations of £96,479 and made payments of £109,349 which included fares, administration and operating expenses. The total cost of the 2024 trip was £101,790 after discount. SPENSOL provided additional staff places, student grants and volunteer fares totaling £25,790. The financial statements accompany the Trustees Report.

concerning any such matter5. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that
would be requlred In an audlt, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts
present a 'true and fair, view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the Statement
