ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
The Children's Hyperlnsullnism Charity supports families of children with Hyperinsullnlsm. We also
ralse awareness of Hyperinsulinism and campai8n for 8reater public a¥ra￿ne$S of the signs and
symptoms of Hypogtycaemia. In addition. we I￿k1 family fun days. COnferen￿S, teachertralning
days and support research.
2020 has presented us wtth new and unforeseen challenge5 due to COVID-19. This has meant that
many of our planned activities were unfortunately postponed. This Induded family fun days to
Gulliverf5 theme park and Frozen the Musiol. We were also unable to hold ourTeacherTraining
Day5 and Fami￿ cOnfe￿nce.
2020 also provided us with new ways to e￿se with families throughout the crisis. We therefore
began our Lockdown Famlly Challenges. en8agin8 and motivatiTra child￿n to participate and share
what they were doing during l¢xkdown. This provided a great deal of reassuran￿ to the children we
support and gave them a fvn and rewarding focu& We also fo￿ed our own Rainbow Trall to give
families the chance to say thank you to the NHS. Our support 8roup was used to provide
infomiatlon. updates, reassurdnce, and support to families throughout the lockdowns.

Despite the challenges of COVID-19 we have been fortunate enough to join the Box4Kids scheme.
Early In 2021 Ibefore the lockdown restrictlonsl two families benefitted from a Box 4 Kids VIP
experience. One famlly had a VIP experience at Coventry Football Club and the other enjoyed a VIP
day out at the races.
During May we had a fantastlc opportunlty to work with Molly from Nurse Dotty Books. We were
able to produce a storybook entitled 'Chloe the Rabbit has Hyperinsulinism,. This book was designed
to help chIld￿n with Hyperinsulinism talk about the condition with their peers and relieve some of
the anxieties they feel about havlng medlcal tests and procedures. The book Is now avallable for
purchase on Amazon Smile and has been very warmly ￿e1Ved with many fNe star ￿views.
In June ￿￿ attended the NHSE meetlng, where we were unable to update NHSE on the progress we
had made on our joint workplan, including being able to submit wording for the NHSE website and
app to NHS DE8ltal. Thls wording wlll soon be on the website and will provide a great tool to raise
awareness of Hyperlnsullnism and alert the publlc to the dangers of Hypoglycaemla, especlally In
babies.
Throughout 2020 we have worked tlrelessly on our NHSE workplan, as a result we have formed a
great working relationship with the Institute of Health Visitors and worked with them to produce
parent's tip document on hypoglycaemia. We now have an Invaluable way to educate Health
Vlsltors and new parents on the signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia and how to seek ur8ent
medital help.
In the summer of 2020. our brand new webslte was launched. With updated advice. famity stories
and downloadable information. We added some great new resources such as our downloadable
Charity leaflets which are now available in Polish, Welsh, Urdu, Ardbic, Punjabi. and Hindi. We also
condensed our Teacher Trainir6 Booklets into a handy pocket gulde. Offering families and
professionals the chance to download these directly from the website.
We worked together with the organisation Clearcomm to ensure our trustees were fully updated
and tralned on the latest GDPR advlce and ￿¢0MMen{latIOns.
In July we were dellghted to announce our new Charlty Patron: Dr Pratik Shah. Dr Shah is a leadin8
expert In Hyperlnsullnisrn. who share5 our passlon in supporting famllies and desire to reach our
Charlty aims.
We also worked with Stkkmann communications to produo some Hyperlnsulinisrn Alert Cards.
These are designed for children to tske to school or put on thelr Hypo bags ktts to alert those carlng
for them of the signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia. The reveTse of the card has a place to record
any other information that is relevant to the individual child. These alert cards were requested by
many families and were also provided to medical professionals and teachlng staff.
Durlng September we were dellghted to be the chosen charfty {along with Great Omond Street
H05Pitall of Logan's Golf Day. This event was a scaled down affair due to COVID-19 and the
restrirtions in place but went ahead thanks to the commitment and determination of Logan's Family.

October marked the 10 year Anniversary of our Family Support group. We celebrated through
social media campalgn and workin8 With Build a Bear where we produced some speclal Charlty

symptoms of hypoglycaemia. partlcularly in bables and children.
In October, we learned that our formerTreasurer and 8￿3t friend Bridget Burton had passed avmv.
Bridget had been a fantastlc support to our families and a dedicated and devoted member of our
Charity, she wlll be sadly missed by us all.
At the end of October, we launched our Charity fundraiser Halloween Hi-Ke, we dest8ned our own
medals and invited familles and supporters to take part in our virtual fun run event.
December as always, was dedicated to our Say HI to Santa campaiBn. We held our Scavenger Hunt
and families were invited to take part in competltlons and challenges throughout the month.
In January, were chosen by Wirtual Runner UK, for a fvndraising running event. The event wa5
named the Unicom Run and was very well supported with many participants. As a result, the event
raised an incredible £3.000.
At the end of February. we took part in Rare Disease Day, offering the famllles we support the
chance to share their courageous stories of living with Hyperinsulinism to inspire and show unlty
towards the wlder ra￿ community. We a150 welcomed the thance to show how chlklren wlth
Hyperinsulinisrn achieve and thrlve despite the many challenges the condition brings.
2020 represented a year of challenge and anxiety to many of the famllles and children we support.
We reallsed the need to find new and different solutions to ensu￿ we could keep en8aBin8 and
supporting familles even when it is impossible to meet in person. We have therefore started to
consider and plan virtual ways of engaging. We are looking at virtual Confe￿nCes. teacher days and
