Introduction
l am pleased to report that the Evesham Abbey Trust has proceeded well over the past twelve Inont115 in
securing the final phases of funding and the workforce lo largely complete the conservation, repairs and site
development of the remalns of Ivesham Abbey. (￿er the past year our volunteer and community engdgemenl
plan has maintaineii ils pace and activily and all our contractors have fulfilled their obllgation5 In accordance
with the planned programme.
The Eve5ham Abbey project wa5 concelved In 2014 aTKI It is qrntifwng for everyone Involved that we are seeing
nlne years on ConCentra￿d thlnklng• ambltlon and hard work come to fruition.
A5 can be seen from the attached Independently examlned accounts cash flow has presented some Issues. The
Trust Is constantly playlng catch up by havlng to pay bllls prlor to recelvlng grant payments. l afft pleased to

D.A.Cook Ltd. our maln contractor has Th)w largely completed the ￿StOratIon work5 of all the wa115 and
sianding structures In accordance wbth the requlrement5 of Historic England. We acknowledge the addltional

The Trust volunteers have W0￿ed very hard over the past twelve months vlth the Interpretlve gardens
developrnent. With rnuch of the work requlrlng the hard physical labour of path creatlon, 5011 movernent,
ground clearance and structure ereciion ihls worf( has requlred sthmlna, deternilnatlon and ￿510n. As a result
of thelr efforts the slle now conta6￿ a Nave Garden, Stone Garden, Clolster Garden and Wlldflower Garden
and also Incorporates a plcnlc area. Local 8rowers have donated plants, lawn areas lald and arbours.
Trelllslnd In the Nave Garden has been erected thanks to the ass15tance of the local 'Men In Sheds" group.
Wc partlcularly apprecluted thc dcdlcatlon of thc "WcdTrcsdoy DouBhnvt Gang" who have rcmalncd falthful
lo the project over many year5 and deserve praise for their tenacity and comrnitment. They were joined by
two volunteers from a local refugee asylum hotel who proved to be very wllling and Involved throughout tl)elr
Stay with us.
The one aspect of the garden5 developmeni that ha5 been of 51gnlflcani ¢oncern ha5 been the dlfflculty of
ri1151ng funds foi Its ijevelowiieiit. Tlieie are very lew source5 0(8ranL fuiidiii8 for lioi IlcvlLui"e aiid ¥<ll"deiis
development and whllst the Tntst was able to SOLtrce some support the overall budget of 130.000 Is qulte
re5trlcled for such a large afea and req￿re5 careful management to e￿Ure that the overall vlsual effect Is
malntalned desplte these restrlctlons.
We are partlcularly grateful for the contdtrAJtlon of Paul Dare and hls team for thelr Invaluable contrlbutlon to
the garden5 ground work5 awHJ New Leaf Plants of Sedgel)orough for their donatirffi of plants.

Communlty Engagement
The Trust has continued to be actively involved Mth the local comtnunity and ha5 been involved in rnany of
the local fe5livat5 and comrnunity events, including the Batile of EYe5haffl re-enactment, the Medieval Fair
and Chi15tma5 Fafjr. Trustees have dellvered numerous talks to local communlty gmup5 alongslde conducted
tours of the 51te and visits by School group5.

we must thank and recosnlse Natalle's work over the past two yea￿.

The Trust has held dlscusslons ¥￿th W￿haV0n Dlstrlct Cwncll regardlng the underwrlte loan provlded by the
councll and the loan perlod has been extended to flve year5. Thls Is on the undersiandlng that there may be a
need to wrlte off part of the loan once flnal flgures are completed In 2024 and forms part of the transfer of

From 1664 10 2017 the slte was ovmed by the Rudge famlly. In 2014, follo￿n9 dlscusslons for a posslble
clolster garden on parl of the slle, the Rudge family offered for publlc benefit the Ireehold of the Abby site
Icomprislng the slte of the vlew nave and claustral ranges). The Trust took on the freehold of the "Abbey
slte" In May 2017 for a nominal surn wlth a view to ￿dertakIng fabrlc conservatlon, selected archaeolo8ical
Investlgatlons and developwnent of the 51te as publlc gardens for the beneflt of Evesham.
