The use of the hall is definitely coming back to normal. I am glad to say that these numbers are going in the right direction. But I personally would like to say thank you to all the residents that have supported us when we have asked, for example the successful ‘Christmas takeaway supper night’. We have now moved in to having a Christmas supper night which was well received last year and we are aiming to repeat it again in 2024. Thank you to all the volunteers and the committee that make events at the Village Hall happen and run smoothly.

I would like to say a big thank you to our booking secretary Ursula Cross and for everything that she does for us at the Hall. Especially her delicious cakes and cookery and she is always coming up with new ideas and recipes. She is also willing every time I ask her to help me out.
This goes as well for Judy Awre who looks after the money tin (petty cash), will always rustle up a cake or donate something when asked and is my right-hand woman for keeping the flower boxes at the hall and wall memorial stocked so that our village looks great in the spring/summer months. I would like to thank the Parish Council for providing the flowers for our displays.
For the supper nights we have decided on the 2[nd] Friday of each month. So big thank you to all that attend, the volunteers who do the cooking and bar and especially our trusted regulars. But of course we always need more volunteers so please get in touch with anyone on the committee if you are interested in cooking.
New Kitchen was fitted April 2023. We will in the near future paint the kitchen to match in with the smart new units.
A local builder replaced the fascia around the whole of the building including the guttering and down pipes and the bell tower. We have agreed that the window frames will be re-placed, and we are looking for grants to help with this.
We have increased our cash reserves for future work.
Renovation of the telephone box is still on the list, and we hope to get that finished this year. We have been granted funding from the Parish Council and we have purchased what we need, and I would like to thank Dean for taking on this role. We had a defibrillator training evening so that we keep our skills up to date. I would like to thank the Parish Council for their ongoing support and for paying for the very helpful course and funding the renovation of the telephone box. We are looking to having another defibrillator training evening in Q1 2025.
Finally, to give thanks. The village hall is very important to the people of Awre and could not function without the support of this community. This is reflected in the numbers that turn out to support us in our endeavours when asked.
Particular mention to Chris Owen, who maintains the flag and the flagpole. Peter Clark who helps mow the lawn and keeps the hedges cut.
We will have our usual calendar of social events and supper nights. Any suggestions of events to do in the future are very welcome. We are always looking for new trustees or helpers and if you feel you would like to join, please let us know. I would like of course to thank all trustees who give up their valuable time and expertise to make sure that the hall runs smoothly and who create a village hall to be proud of.
Next supper night, 8[th] of November, Quiz night and then Christmas Supper event tba.
