Hansa Class UK Annual Report

Another successful year for Hansa Class UK. Following the success of introducing paid membership in 2022, the practice was continued in 2023. In 2023 there were 87 full members and 37 associate members. The organisation remains in a financially sound position as evidenced in the annual accounts.
Over the season there were 9 Traveller Trophy events, unfortunately one was cancelled due to bad weather. There were 52 different crews taking part with sailors from different clubs taking part. The rig which transports 6 303s to all events continues to be a huge asset, enabling people to attend who don’t have access to a boat or who can’t transport them.
The National Championships was held over 3 days at Rutland Water and attracted 37 sailors from across the country. The HCUK AGM was held for members during the event.
In conjunction with the RYA, HCUK provided a 3-day training event at Rutland water in the week running up to the National Championships. These were well attended and provided good preparation for ParaWorld sailors who took part in a World Sailing event at the Hague, as well as the team who would travel to Portimao for the Hansa World Championships in October. A second training event was run by HCUK in conjunction with the Andrew Simpson Foundation at Chesil and was attended by 13 sailors.
HCUK helped 21 sailors of varying abilities to compete in the World Championships by organising the transportation of 16 boats, coordinating fundraising activities, providing coaching and support on the water, as well as supporting a number of volunteers to help sailors on shore. It was a mammoth task which was made possible by a huge team effort; over £20k was raised. The team had some great success on the water as well, with Rory McKinna finishing 3[rd] in a fleet of 87 303 one-person sailboats and Paul Phillips coming 2[nd] in the 17 boat Liberty fleet.
