Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 After our BICRAA app (www.bicraa.org)
has been successfully tested in India
(n=1049), showing that around 30% chew
betel nut (we would like to thank Prof.
Kelkar and Dr. Pethe from the Deenanath
Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune, for their
invaluable support), the app has continued
to help raise the awareness of the risks of
betel nut chewing. We have now been
working on a global study to extend these
efforts in India and other countries.
With regard to our work in Indonesia, we
have continued to closely work with our
partners at the Dr. Sardjito Hospital/Gadjah
Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia,
and affiliated district general hospitals in
collaboration with Prof. Bing Tan to support
the local Nasopharyngeal Cancer (NPC)
awareness and early detection programme
and to support research and publications of
results. The company Storz has continued
to support our programme and in 2019 we
were able to award four fellowship grants to
young surgeons, sponsored by a donation
by the company Storz, allowing them travel
to low and middle income countries and
helping with the local charitable work.
