Objectives and Activities
Summary of purpose

Summary of main activities
For Vetwork UK the year from April 2021 to March 2022:
The Climate Crisis is a significant threat to global biodiversity; with this in mind, VW UK is directing efforts towards education and behaviour change within our spheres of influence.
Trustees completed Carbon Literacy training and embarked on development of a CL training course for the veterinary community (to be known as ‘CLiVe’).
VW UK are continuing to follow and support the activities of the RSPB vulture conservation project in India.
The charity continued to review strategy and policy informed by, for example:
-
scientifically validated reports on Climate Change, Global Biodiversity Loss, and the place of meat consumption in relation to these phenomena;
-
OIE recognition of 'One Welfare';
-
rapidly changing perspectives on global development.
Public Benefit Statement
Vetwork UK provides a public benefit by:
-
Promoting increased care of livestock for communities and families for whom livestock is a key livelihood resource. This is mainly through engagement with international development and focusing on marginalized and disadvantaged communities, and those affected by emergencies such as animal disease outbreaks, drought or flooding. Livestock play a crucial role in helping communities to build resilience to disasters and emergencies as they are often the social and financial assets that the poor draw upon in times of stress.
-
Promote the benefits that animals can provide to their owners and the wider public such as the bond created between animals and people through daily care and companionship. Together with the international development work, this approach also provides a focus for improving animal welfare.
-
Raising awareness of the need to conserve habitat for wild animals and take tangible steps towards protection and preserving such habitats
