volunteers wth experience ol precar￿US work and immigration ststus insecuTity - the key issues the charity
seeks lo a(SJress. Al its core, the charity is based on NYO realisalions. FirsL povety is an urgent and
widespread need. partieularly among migianl popuLqtions who are less aware of, and less able lo access.
Iheir rights. Second, despite this WKlespread need there is a signrfieanl gap in the frondine SUPFOrt available
to migrants, al ￿ crucial intgrseclion ol emph)￿ent and immigratrjn.

In the contsxt ol an increasingly hostile immKJralK*n system, which since Brexit has repLqced f￿e movemant
with a system that lies foreign workers to Ihe employers who sponsor their visas. the precarily ol migrant
workers has acquired a troutrAng new dimension.
Sudden￿. then irreversty, in 2023 our advisers started hearing from service Use￿ ￿ reported labour and
tinancial explottalion al the haThJs of v￿a sponsors. Unscrupubus employers generalty used their power lo
curtail workers. visas to overwork, underpay, then Ihreaten their slaff that il they spoke up they would lace
deportation. The adult soiiai care sector look th6 lion's share ol these eTh]uiries. bul Serv￿ u59rs also
reported similar dynam￿$ in other sectors MCI￿lIng hos￿1￿, let￿1, and even IT.
What started as a new issue in 2023 became Ihe central theme one year later. Teportod by the majority ol
our clients. This lime around. wothers were only grappling ￿1h abuses by their swns0￿, but also with
the prospect ol involuntary unempknyinent and immMJration status insecurity. As the Home Ottic8 started
strippiro non-comptiant emptoyeTS ol the I￿nCe to sponsor, all wothers tied to those employers lost thg
basis ol their imm¥Jration status - through ￿ laum of their own.

Another key issue our teams supported servk* usets with was reconfiguration of the rights landscape lor
Ukrainians who sought sancluary in Ihe UK after the Russian invasion. In Felxuary 2024. Sudden￿ and
withoLrt consu￿allOn. the govemment heavily restrKted safe and legd roules lor Ukratnians. This led to
numerous enqLJiries about family reunIl￿tion. wh￿h culminated in a strategi leg￿ Ch￿lenge.

discrimination were the primary issues laced by our clients, but a particvwy complex W of issue
was reported by clients on empbyef-SPM)nsored visas. who reve￿ed rKJt On￿ LaLK)ur rights breaches.
bul also financial and eMOt￿rIal abuse from their sp)nsors. Oui empbymenl advisers provKled athice
consullalion and. wherever possbi le. representation ol clients in the Empbymenl Tribunal. from the
submission of the ACAS Earfy concl￿1￿)n notTficatlOllS to connecting clients with barristers for fin

In Immigration we supported 630 clients. Our team made 110 immigration apPI￿atiOnS Iwlh a success
rale of 93 /.. Gfven the Centr￿ issue ol expbitalion urKleT the employer-swnsored visa system, Ihe
majority ol clients required suFport to understand Iheir oplK>ns uThJer Ihe Healih antj Care Worker and
Skilkgd Worker visas. However. our team aL80 suptKsrted ckenls more WKJely, including those who were
undocumented, whom we suprK)rted where posst>le to regularise their status. and those or the Homes
for Ukrwne Scheme. who in 2024 saw their family reuntfication options su(kJenly narrow.

One ol the main aims of our campwgrts last year was to rais8 awareness of the issues faced by Ukrainians
affected by the February 2024 visa changes, and the seri)us expkjilation of muranl care worker5 by their

January 2024 the UK government anr￿UnC9d changes to the Homes lor UkTaine Sponsorship Scheme

sp)nsor minor chiklren lo ljring them lo safety. For some families. thi5 news came as a huge relief,
almost 12 months aftgr Ihe former govemmenl changed the swnsoi eligibility lo prevent most
Ukrainians Irom spNJnsoring their ovffl reLatives. For others hovdever. this guidance change offers no
remedy lo the pain inllthd by proloryed separation from knved ones. who remain in a counlry involved
in ongoing confl￿. This research report. the It￿rth in our Ukraine series, explained why this guidance
change matters, and why further concessions are necessary.

When the govemmenl made the &rupl charKJ8s to Ihe Ukrain8 Visa schemes in February 2024, we saw an
immediate impact on Ukrainian nathJnds. forced apart from their families. W8 heard from hundreds of
ukr￿nIanS Separated from family members, corKemed atrxjut their safety. arKI trying to ￿Ing them lo the
UK. Wsih backing from Law for Change aThJ in collaboration ￿th the PUbr￿ Law Project, we challenged
these charyes ￿ a judicial review. In the course ol the pre-action correswndence, the governmanl agreed
to consider our ewdence and rewew the changes. In January 2025. fol￿wIng this rewew. they revised the

In the last fina￿la1 year the ctharity expenses have grown by 12% from £565.731 in 2023124 10 £636.183 in
2024125. The funds were used largely to support ¢)ur learns in London and Marthester: inchJdiThJ slaff
saI￿les, social security payTrents and rent.
The increase in payroll costs was due to the impaet ol add1b"on￿ stafl costs taken on towards the grbd of
2023124, includir@ new full time roles. The￿ was also a signtficant increase in ihe Web & IT spend due
lo the one-olf cost associated Mth the redevekjpmenl ol our website. We also T￿te increased cost o15tsff
IT￿nIl¥j (int￿d1￿j sp¢TrJ on tho SQE exarn support). trav61 and confgrgnce cost, insUrar￿8 and Offi￿ rent.
The charity income has increased in line expenses by circa 13%, from £575,285 in 2023124 10 £651,508
