given but reserves the right to use them for alternotive purposes if no suitable use is identified.
In oddition to the funds related lo the services provided by University Hospitals Coventry and
Worwickshire NHS Trvst, the Charily olso monages all of the charilable funds thot supporl Coventry
and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.
The funds are overseen by Fund Advisors. The majority of Fund Advisors are key clinicions in the
two NHS organisalions and are best oble to odvise the Trustee Board on how Ihe donations can
be most effectively spenl.
Gfanl maklng pollcy
Any staff member can apply for o gront. All grant applicalions musl be supported by a Fund
Advisor. A grant request up lo £5.CCQ requires the approvol of the Charity Director. Belween
£5,OCX)- £19,999 Ihe approval of Ihe Charity Chair is required ond £20.(J)J and above, applicants
are invited lo presenl their case lo a meeting of the Board. whose approval is required.
Reserves pollcy
The Charity's unreslricted free reserves are held in readily availoble Bank occounls and
Investment Funds managed by professional advisers. These funds are avoiloble to be spent on
the charitable purposes of Ihe Charity and are not regarded as port of the permanent copilal of
the organisation beyond the sum required to comply with this reserves policy.
As a grant-giving charity Ihe organisalion's aim 15 Ihot income received by Ihe Chorily should be
spent effectively and promplly in accordance wilh the funds. objective5. The Trustees aspire to
giving grants to a value each year at least equal to the income received. The corollary of this is
thal should charilable income be reduced then there is sufficienl cash in reserves lo continue to
award grants ot the current rote for o considerable period of lime.

Therefore. as a reserves policy, the Trustees aim to relain an amount equal lo belween one and
two years of operating expendilure, which is predominantly staff salaries ond relaled overheads,
before the granl-giving polential is jeopordised. This is o sum of between £3CK).C((J ond £6CQ.IJX).
At the current lime unrestricled reserves designated for Ihe general purposes of the Charity
omounl to £930,OW 0131 March 2024. In addilion, other unrestricted funds which are designoted
Ibul not restricted) for specific purposes totaled £3.694.CXJ). All of these funds are available lo be
awarded by woy of charitoble gronts. The Charity held no endowment funds al the slart of Ihe
year and nor did it receive or create any during Ihe year.
Investmenl pollcy
The Board's investment strotegy is lo maximise the level of investmenl income whilsl ot the same
time moinloining lor increasingl the capitol investment value of the underlying investmen15 in real
terms. Achieving on Oppfopriale balance be￿een these objectives requires subjective
judgement ond professionol advice which 15 obtained from CCLA.
The Chority currenlly invests mainly in the Common Inveslmenl Fund ICOIFI managed by CCLA
Investment Management Limited.
The Board has also agreed an ethical inveslment policy which precludes investmenls in the direct
processing andlor manufaclure of tobacco products or amamenls. as Ihese are not felt lo be
in accordance with the Choiity s purposes and objecls.
The lotol volue of Ihe inveslment portfolio at 31 March 2024 is £3,371,CKX). Gr055 income from
investments is used to help defray operoling costs of the Chority. The Trustees receive quarterly
reports on the performance of the investment portfolio ond continue to review the investment
51rategy regulody to ensure Ihol the availoble relum is maximised.
Golng concem
The Board of Trustees has reviewed UHCW Charity's octivilies, financiol position ond
risk management policy together with faclors likely lo affect fvlure development, including the
impact of economic uncertainty on volvntary income. The finonciol impoct of coronavirus wa5
cenlrol to these ossessmenls. Our TnJ51ees have concluded thal. with agreed adjustments to our
fundraising plans, which include incorporating sociol distancing measures and rescheduling or
adopting fundraising events. ond with ongoing finonciol risk monogement, it is reasonable to
expect UHCW Charily lo have adequale resovrces to conlinue in operotion for the foreseeable
future. Accordingly. the going concern basis of accounting continues to be adopted in preparing
Ihe financiol slotements.
Avdll
Harrison Beale & Owen Limiled have expressed their willingness to continue in office and will be
reappointed for Ihe next financial year in accordance with section 487121 of the Componies Act
2006 unless the company receives nolice under section 48811 l of the Companies Act 2006.

Rlsk statemenl
During the year. the Board reviews the major risks to which the Charity is exposed. Significant
areas of risk for the Charity are falls in fundroising and investmenl income ond high commitmenlg
in respect of expenditvre.
These risks are further mitigated by the Charity moinlaining a varied investment portfolio which
includes wider range investments, narrower ronge investments and bank deposits,. having
sufficient cash resources to meet ils immediate commilmenls.. only committing expenditure once
resources ore secured: ond by having an octive fvndraising team to generale new addilional
resources in the current uncertoin climole.
The Boord is olso owore Ihol Ihe Chority needs to sofeguord its credibility os being beneficia110

Our objectives are to obtoin reosonable ossurance aboul whether the financial slalemen15

Irregularilies, including fraud, are inslonces of non-complionce with lows and regulolions. We
design procedures in line wilh our responsibililies, outlined above, lo detect material

ore capable of detecting iffegularilies, including fraud is detailed below-
The oudit process includes on assessmenl of the entity's risk environmenl. Ihrough enquiry of
cnd di5CUS5ion with manogemenl ond those chorged wilh governance, including on
ossessment of any key laws and regulolions with which the charilable company must comply
in the ordinary course of ils operolions.
Additionally, the overall risks of irregular transactions occurring are assessed following our
ob5ervalion5 and confirmation of the design ond implemenlation of monagemenl's controls.
Whilsl we ore mindful of these risks, our audil focus is geared lowards the risk of material
misstatement in the financial stalemenls as a whole.
A5 such, our procedures cannot guarantee Ihat all transactions have been fully complionl
with all relevanl laws and regulalions. including those regulalions relating to fraud. as our
procedures are not designed lo detect all instances of non-compliance. By definilion, the risk
of our detection of non-compliance is greater where compliance with o law or regulalion is
removed from the evenls and transactions reflected in the financial statements. The risk is
also greoler regarding irregularities due to fvovd rother Ihon error, as fraud involve5
intentional concealment. forgery. collusion. omission or misrepresenlotion.
