Trustees Report for the period 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2022

The Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra Charity has as its main object the advancement of the art of symphonic music making for the public benefit in particular by bringing this music and the art form to audiences in Cheltenham and to towns and villages within Gloucestershire and bordering counties and beyond.

The orchestra were pleased to return for a full series of concerts during the year performing five concerts. Four of these took place in Cheltenham with the fifth, in support of the Farmers Overseas Action Group charity, taking place in Pershore. It was pleasing to see audiences returning to live performance after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The charity trustees of the CIO who served during the period were:

In addition the following elected members served on the orchestra committee:

Lindsay Jack Nicky Jee Michael Omer

Also the Musical Director, David Curtis and orchestra leader, Caroline Broekman served on the orchestra committee as ex-officio members.

At the Annual General Meeting Trustees, David Banks, Catherine Billington and David Todd retired by rotation in accordance with the constitution. All were duly re-elected for a further period of three years.

Nicky Jee retired by rotation and was duly re-elected for a further period of three years,

The Trustees met on seven occasions during the year to discuss the affairs of the charity

Income for the year increased to £20,021 reflecting ticket receipts from concerts and increased financial support from members. After expenses of £19,140, the surplus for the year was £880. Net assets as at 31 August 2022 totalled £33,920.
