Trustees Report for the period 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021

The Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra Charity has as its main object the advancement of the art of symphonic music making for the public benefit in particular by bringing this music and the art form to audiences in Cheltenham and to towns and villages within Gloucestershire and bordering counties and beyond.

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly curtailed activities during the year and resulted in the cancellation of all planned concerts.

Towards the end of the year members were able to get together in sections to rehearse in Covid secure conditions in preparation and anticipation of a full programme of concerts for 2021/22.

The charity trustees of the CIO who served during the period were:

In addition the following elected members served on the orchestra committee:

At the Annual General Meeting Trustees Paul Broekman, Ben Lewis, and Simon Cox, retired by rotation in accordance with the constitution. Paul Broekman and Ben Lewis were duly re-elected for a further period of three years and Simon Cox was thanked for his outstanding service as a Trustee.

Lindsay Jack retired by rotation and was duly re-elected for a further period of three years,

The Trustees met formally on three occasions during the year to discuss the affairs of the charity. In addition they met three times to discuss the implications of the Covid pandemic for the operation of the orchestra.

Throughout the pandemic financial support from members remained very strong providing total income for the year of £7,213. After expenses of £4,127, the surplus for the year was £3,085. Net assets as at 31 August 2020 totalled £33,039.
