Trustees’ Annual Report Year ended 2nd January 2023

Structure, Governance and Management

Governing Document

The Church is administered in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Constitution.

Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees

Members of the church with the exception of 1 are the charity trustees. The trustees are the leaders of the church and are chosen from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills. Board Members are then appointed at the Stated Annual Meeting and serve for a period of three years after which they must seek re-election at the next Stated Annual Meeting.

Organisational Structure

The Congregational Board is chaired by the Pastor and meets eight times in a year. Certain responsibilities are delegated to the Finance Committee as appropriate.

Objectives and Activities

Bread of Life Church operates in South East London - Thamesmead. We meet every Sunday and we share the gospel of Jesus. We encourage those who are discouraged-bring hope to those who fell lonely. Most of all, we believe that everyone was born to fulfil a purpose. We help people discover their purpose the biblical way. Our objective is the advancement of the Christian Faith for the public benefit in London and the United Kingdom in accordance with the Doctrines set out in the statement of the Faith Appended.

When planning our activities for the year, we have considered the Commission’s guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the supplementary guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. In particular, we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our church community through:

• Worship and prayer; learning about the Gospel; and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus.

Achievements and Performance

The church is keen to offer a range of services during the week and over the course of the year that our community find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. We have located to a new building in Bromley High Street and are pleased to finally meet back full time as a congregation to fellowship. However, we still held online services every Sunday at 11am through a Radio station and Facebook Live. Through this platform, we reached a multitude of people across the globe, and still maintained a community feel and true engagement from our local congregants. In addition, we introduced daily prayers also held online, as well as a weekly service every Wednesday. It still remains a challenging time for all, we hope to bring a sense of hope to people and encourage church members during these uncertain times.

Financial Review

Despite being unable to congregate in the church building due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown, members continued to give faithfully. Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £55,739 which included £14,425 of gift aid and £55,710 was spent from the unrestricted funds. The net result for the year was an excess of receipts over payments of £29.

Reserves Policy

It is the Trustees’ policy to hold reserves of approximately two months expenditure including designated funds. The net result of £29 will be carried forward.

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities

The members of the Board must prepare financial statements which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. The members of the Board are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must reflect the financial position of the Church at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Regulations Anent Congregational Finance approved by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2007. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Church and must take reasonable steps for the prevention and/or detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf, Dr Mulenga Makota (Trustee Chairperson)

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Bread of Life Church

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 02 January 2023 which are set out on pages 1 to 6.

Respective reiiponsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Invesbnent (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10( 1) ( d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44( I) ( c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner's statement

An examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention,

Address: Josh Commercial Services Limited Chartered Accountants 26 Tunnmeade, Ifield RHl 1 0QR.
