FRIENDS OF HURST FARM

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT

YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2022

The trustees have the pleasure in presenting their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2022.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

To promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the residents Hurst Farm estate and surrounding areas. In particular the advancement of education, the promotion of health, the relief of poverty, the promotion of public safety and the prevention of crime.

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN RELATION TO THESE OBJECTS

In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustees meetings.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

Building on the food box and veg bag schemes the charity has started, and sustained, a nonprofit community pantry to provide affordable food on a permanent basis using premises provided by our partner Hurst Farm Social Club CIC. Volunteering opportunities have been provided for many residents, members of the community along with visitors from the Golding Grange centre for people with additional needs. This has resulted in some residents obtaining work.

We have worked hard to provide youth and family support at this difficult time, including a junior youth club and Holiday Activities Fund sessions for young people in the school holidays. Working with the school has been important, with classes taking part in

The Friends of Hurst Farm has actively worked in partnership to help to secure funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a “Heritage Trail” project that will deliver between 2023 & 2025.

We continue to provide free Parent & Toddler sessions to families on the estate which are led by an experienced childcare worker.

The charity has started a weekly coffee and bacon butty morning to reduce isolation & build support between people on the estate. This is funded through donations and has regular attendees.

The charity has continued to support older people's activities including Golden Club and Knit & Natter clubs. This again helps to eliminate the feeling of isolation. We will also be organising a Christmas meal for older members of the community.

Forest School leaders have finished their training and are now preparing the ground for the launch of a self-contained forest school in 2022/3.
