2021 was our first fvll year as Ja¢kson's Animal Rescue and the first fvll
year of our Jackson's Pla¢e site in North Wales. which we acquired in
Seplember 2020. And what a year it was. Whilst the back ernl of
2020 was all about opening our new domesttc animal san¢tuary.
Jackson's Place. in North Wales and welcomirvJ our first residents.
2021 was all about expansion! This is easily evmjenced by the fad that
we welcomed 1.798 resldents ofvarying species durirvJ 2021.
compared to 1,385 in 2020.
Ftrsty, although suc(wfvl
wetcomed pigs a￿1 goats in 2020. we
quickly ￿￿ised that we woukl need to make substantial renovations
in order to be atle to welcome more standard domestic Ws that
were I￿king for nvw homes. We therefcKe spent the first 3 months
worklNJ on opening our Cattery, with pens for 6 cats. Th8se
renovations included replacing cage doors for PVC and glass ones,
new Ik)oring and new healers. so our resKlertrts would be spoiled
approprFalely whilst staying vAth us. These were Snapped up within
days of opening in March 2021 and have only ever been empty long
enough lo dean ¢yJt for the W resident. The incredible levels of
demand, and our Wditing list have never reduced. meaning we will
expand further in future as aff￿dabIlIty alkAVS. or as other
opportuntiies to buylsource nv•V pens arise in future.
l<nowiNJ our feline residents rKMI belng wpll tsken care of. we next
¢oncentrated on rabbits. Although this wasn't necessarily in our In￿21 plan for the
sile, we were led by the sheer volume of demand from the general public in this
area. So during April we bought and built six purwse buih cabins with heaters that
are suitable for ef(hw rabbits or guinea p￿s. Since building these. we have never
had an empty cabin. even with many cabins holdiThJ bonded palrs, and again
have a vraiting lisl for ne•V resKJents.

During May. as the weather improved. we started lo focu5 more on our
fields and grounds so we'd have addthonal land available to other fEhJ
residents. This bjrned out lo be a good idea, as we soon welcomed
an additional 7 sheep, 2 goals. and 2 pos. all of whom were due to be
euthanised at the vets before we were fortunalety able lo slep in.
These new resKlents happily joined Rosie. Lilty and Eden as part of
the new Field Gang.

In August, we held our first

whilst keeping the weffare of our residents in the forefront of
our miThJs. This event was well attended and really helped
sprea(J awareness about our new sile and all the new animals
we are now able lo help. as well as the wildlrfe, birds a￿1 small
domestK pets that we were already looking after in our Larton
site.
Unfortunately. during the August Bank Holiday weekend. we
were contacted a￿ut a case of a cal and kittens that had been badly neglected and were in a terrible
way. Despite having no spaee to lake them in, we couldn't leave the pwr eals in that situation.
Ihefefore had lo think of another opb.on and temporarity Converted one of the old kennels that wasn't
being used into a cattery pen to take care of the older cats, whilst volunteers hand-reared the
youngest. Thankfully, most were able lo recover and Ihrtve. however unfortunately. the 2 youngest
kittens were loo badly rrflecled to survNe, and we therefore opened a case with the RSPCA to try to
prevent the same situalK)n happening again.
So what about our original Wildlife Centre on the Wirral? Although much of our focus has been on
our expansion into North Wales. we were also keen to ensure Ihe great work
we have undertaken rehabilitating wildlrfe on the Wirral and the surrounding
areas over the last few years continued. Wrth our CEO and founder now
overseeing our new srte in North Wales. our wonderful Wildlrfe Centre
Manager and her team of ded￿ated vdunteers oversaw the admission of 1507
animals throughout 2021. 813 of these were hedgePK)gs, 145 of which we
were able to release dUr1r￿ 2021. many others rang in the new year wth us,
waiting for wamier weather in the Spring of 22. We also saw animals such as
owls, a sparrow hawk, bats, a fox a￿1 even roe deer come through our doors
throughout the year.
We saw expansion here as V•*ll. wth Ho9s broughl lo us froffl as far as South
Yorkshire, as we were the nearest RSPCA accredited centre. On this occasw)n. 4
of the 16"male" hedgehogs we admitted ended up successfully giving birth in the
centre! As well as extending our reach. we also increased our services provided lo
our hoggy friends and started providing Hydrotherapy lo those hedgehogs brought
in wf(h bad legs. following advice from Vale Wildlife Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre
and our loc￿ vel, lo increase Chan￿ of successful rehabilitation.
Wrth Jackson's Animal Rescue as our namesake, the
inimitable and ever-smiling Jackson, unfortunately passed
away after a second battle wtth cancer. Alhough his passing was mel with
much sadness and grief, his legacy of rehoming domestic pets in need and
rehabilitating wildlrfe will continue into 2022 and beyond.
