Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

from 1[st] April 2020 period start date to 31[st] March 2021 period end date

Charity name: Tamworth Christadelphian Church

Charity registration number: 1165230

Objectives and Activities

The CIO carries out activities based on the teaching and faith of Jesus, including making grants available to individuals and organisations.

The objective of the CIO is to advance a way of life guided by faith in Jesus for the glory of God and the honour of Jesus Christ, for the benefit of the wider community, both locally and with those who share this common goal both nationwide and internationally.

It does this by holding regular opportunities to meet, which have largely been online during 2020-2021, following government guidelines. This includes, but is not exclusively, the regular meetings held as per our constitution.

Additional information

Opportunity has been afforded this year to support two local people who appealed to our charity for funding with projects that improved their daily living arrangements.

The trustees have been grateful to volunteers who have extended the scope of the online meetings to include several informal social evenings, that have benefited those affected by isolation and loneliness within the community during this period.

During early Spring of March 2021, several outdoor social gatherings were being planned for when the guidelines were to be relaxed across England.

Achievements and Performance

The CIO has created opportunity through online meetings that have allowed a cohesive platform for meeting, whilst meeting face to face has been limited due to guidelines in place at the time.

This allowed further expansion of governance documents, like the safeguarding policy, allowing opportunity for this to be revisited and tightened in relation to providing a safe space for vulnerable members to meet. In turn this has allowed the reach of these meetings to spread the help afforded to those who do not live locally.

A proposal, since agreed, was for one of the midweek meetings to continue beyond the restrictions as an entirely online meeting. This decision has allowed greater inclusion of

members who often faced restrictions due to life-choices in their weekly routines; it has also allowed inclusion of many others who would not be able to travel significant distances within an evening.

We have been blessed with new membership during the year, which has helped with both the running and organisation of the charity.

Financial Review

The results of the CIO for the period of this report are disclosed within the form CC16a.

Income is received from collections and personal donations. On occasion other organisations are approached making benevolence available to those with regular ongoing requirements.

Donations received for a specific purpose, are directed at approved organisations under the charity commission guidelines, those demonstrating robust governance of their own internal procedures and organisation.

Interest on income is received from funds in a reserve bank account, arising as a consequence of the sale of the CIO building back in March 2016.

Welfare payments have been made from the CIO to assist members and members of the public, to ensure benefit has been received following appeals made to our board of trustees.

The trustees confirm, in accordance with the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) regulations 2012, that at the year end the CIO did not have any outstanding guarantees to third parties, nor any debts secured on assets of the CIO.

Structure, Governance and Management

The CIO is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) governed according to its constitution dated 17 November 2015 and by agreement of the members in January 2020, amended on 17 April 2020.

Membership of the CIO is open to anyone who accepts the objectives and engages in the activities of the organisation, who undertake to act in good faith to further the objectives of the CIO.

The governance and responsibility for the CIO are managed by the Charity Trustees, of which there should be a minimum of three, with no specified maximum number presently.

The members may appoint new Charity Trustees at any time, but regular ballots occur every two years following the initiation of the constitution of the CIO at the end of 2017. Unless reelected, following the ballot, charity trustees retire for that ballot period. The decisions to accept the trustees are made on a simple majority vote.

The trustees for the current reporting period are named in the table below:

Names of the charity trustees who manage the charity

The trustees in office during the period reporting were appointed, following the ballot of all members at the end of the prior internship period (2018/2019), for a period of two years. So remained in office during the entire period, with the exception of one trustee who stepped down during this period. A change in office of the chair (secretary) of trustees took place, by mutual consent of the members at the end of the year 2020.
