Accouniing and Reporting by Charilies: Staternent of Recommended Practice applicable to chariti¢
preparing their ac¢ounts in accordance with the Firlancial Reportin8 Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Irela[￿ IFRS 102) (effe¢tive l January 2015).
STRUCTURE AND GOVERLYANCE
Inner South Wesi London Samaritans I'the Charity") is & branch of the S8marithn5 and L5 eonsiituted a
Charitable Incorporated Or88nisaiion (CIO), r¢gist¢rtd charity number 1165049 and is governed by its
constitution daied 27 September 2016.
The trus￿e8 of the Charity are responsible for its general management. The tNsiees consult wtth all branc
members as to who should be appointed as Branch Director for a period of tljree years. The Branch Director
represents the branch at the twice yearly Samari¢an$ Council of Manag¢m¢nt meeting and oversees all
$p¢¢ts of branch work in relalion to the service it provides to caller5.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
The objKts of the Charity are..
l.To enable peT80J]5 in South West London and the SUTTounding area as well a8 elsewhere who are
experiencing f¢¢lings of distress or despair, including thos¢ who may be at risk of suicide. lo receive
confidenual emotional support at any time of ihe day or night in order io improve their emolional
health and to reduce the incidence of Suicide.
2. To Promoie a better understandin¥ in society of suicide. guicidal b¢haviour and th¢ vklue of
expr¢ssing feelings which m4y otherwise lead to suicide or impaired ¢motional hcalth. and
3. To collaborate with and suppon Sam4ritarL# Central Chprily 8nd its affiliatcd branches in fulfillin8
these objecis.
Samaritany offer emotional Support to anyone in distre￿ tsr despair. includinx those who may be thllthing of
ending their life. Suppon from our Irlner South West London branch 18 ¢urrently given by Hround 190
voluntceTS who help our calleTh by giving each one a safe and confidential space tts ￿Ik on the phone. by
ernail OT in person. We work with ¢he other 200 Samaritan brdnches to ensure 2￿hour availability of the
service across the whole of (he UK.
Our branch responded to over 24.000 Conthcts laAt year. in line with the prior year. Tht majority of our
conta¢L8 are still by telephone but we 2re seeing an increase in webcha( and we are still dealing with emails,
notwithstandiTJg a netional initiative 10 move em8iSs to a central hub. W¢ continue to focus on increasing
our voluntcer T)umbers which will help u8 to offer mor¢ h¢lp to calle15, particularly during the unsocial
hours when demand for our servi¢es is at a peak.
Outreach a¢tivitie8 continued during the ye8r where we have both vijtual and fa¢¢ to face presence at
various community and sohool events to raise &warene8s and provide emotional support.

Fund-raising events contin￿ed during the year and our income from these activities rose by 58(/*p over the
previous year. Our tn05t 5Lxnifi¢ant ￿nd-raising events during the year were the London Marathon. London
to Brighton WaiK Swirn Serpentine, and the Wolk Around the World Wild¢ 7. We are extremely grateful to
dll our supporters for their great efforts in raising money for u8.
D0t￿tiOnS remain a vital source of revenue for the branch. During the year we benefited from the receipl of
significant legacie5, and we continuc to b¢ particularly appreciative of those who donate r¢gularly by
standing order, as these donations rcpr¢s¢nt our most predictable sour¢¢ of income.
Additionally this year we received two Sl8nificant grants fmm The National Lottery and the Foyle
Foundation which will help us continue our vital work 5UPPOrting callers,
The-rtustees have complied with the duty out in Section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to have paid due
regard to the public benefit guidance publith¢d by the Charity Commi&4ion in planning their artivities.
FINAIYCIAL REVIEW AND RISK MANAGEMENT
A summary of ihe financig41 p051tion 8nd incotrte and expendilure for the year are given on page5 5 to 10.
The TNstees have considered the principal risks to which the OTganisation is exposed and hav¢ developed
straiegie5 to mitigate the effects of these where possible.
RECRUITMENT AND APPOIIYTMENT OF TRUSTEES
Trustees are elected by the members a( the Annual Gener41 Mceting and up to two Trustee5 may b¢ appoirtied
by the existing Trustees in order to fill identified gaps in expertise on the Charity's Board of Trusiecs,
althou8h Such TN8tee5 are required io reiire and seek re-¢le¢Lion &1 the next AGM.
FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
Fundraising activities are monitored by the Tru5t¢e8 and the Clwity does not employ pr()f¢s5LQrtBI
ndraisers or other commercial participator8 lo raise funds. The Charily 15 not bound by any voluntary
scheme or standard for fundraising but Seeks to ensure this is carried out in an eihical manner and in
accordance with Charity Commission guidance. In partieular the Charity seeks to pro￿¢¢ ￿lnerable
people and oiher members of the public from the following. unreasonable intrusion on privacy.
unreasonably persisient approa¢hes or placing undue pressure on A person to giv¢ morley or other
property. No complaints about it% fundraising aciiyitiei were received in the y¢ar.
RESERVES POLICY
The Charity seck8 to maintain a l¢v¢l of reserves 5uffici¢nt to allow it to maintain the infrastrncttjre
ncccssary for it to carry on its operations, to provide a butrer against variations in cash flow and to allow
for such contingenties as might reasonably be expected to arise. A separate capithl r¢setve was set up to
r¢flw¢ th¢ oo5t of the freehold propety and other r￿ed assets.
PREMISES
ThE freehold property allows the Branch to operate without having to pay commercial rents as
well as representing a possible source of incotne for the fvture.
