## **Registered Charity No. 1165040** # **Annual Report** ## **5[th] Jan 2023 – 4[th] Jan 2024** ## **Background** In our 8[th] year since establishment as a CIO we continued to work hard to re-establish audience numbers to pre-COVID values. However, these continued to hover around 30% below those of a similar period in 2019. Figures were 3123 (2023) versus 4296 (2019). This was broadly in line with national figures for cinema audiences. ## **Achievements** Following agreement with High Peak Theatre Trust we were able to secure a date and launch a short film exhibition during the Buxton Festival period as our entry to the Buxton Fringe. We restricted entries to filmmakers associated with our town (Buxton) and the Peak District. The event was a success with encouraging audience numbers (122) and a good variety of films submitted. Of those selected was a film made by young people with additional needs attending sessions organised with support from Derbyshire Community Arts. We were able to award prizes and commendations as well as involve the audience in voting for and awarding an Audience Prize. We also discussed and agreed to screen (at an uplifted ticket price due to license restrictions) an Exhibition on Screen film on the Vermeer exhibition held earlier in the year. This proved extremely popular and an audience of c. 300 attended the screening (compared with our year average of 77). Overall, in the year to 4/1/24 we screened 40 feature length films, of which 29 were foreign language films and 7 were UK produced. ## **Looking ahead** We will continue to programme in line with our constitutional objectives and explore ideas to develop our audience further. We plan to repeat the **Buxton Shorts** exhibition and aim to encourage more local filmmakers to contribute their films.
