Elders, report on the aehievements and aetivities pn>gressed in the year
To say that 2020 was rather strange would be an understatement. In February we held our final service
at the old building on Barking Road before moving to Lenwood Hall. Then the demolition ￿eW moved
in and flattened the site in preparation for the rebuild.
The move to Lenwood presented us with the physÉcal chaIlenge of getting the contents of Cbrist Church
into a much smaller space. Hard decisions were made on what to keep and what to throw away. We owe
a great deal to the small number of people who worked tirelessly to make sure ail the essential items
wer¢ moved safely.
Only a few weeks after the move, the county was brought to a standstill by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lenwood Hall was closed and all activities at the church came to a halt, but the members of Chrfftst
Church continued to meet online via Zoom. The URC gav¢ us a detailed risk assessment to go through
before the church could rewopen. Over the summer, the Elders made detailed plans to meet government
guidelines and take all necessary p￿CautionS to prevent an outbreak of the pandemic in chuwh. After
the country went into a second lockdown at the start of November, Lenwood eventually re-opened for
th
worship on 13 December. Scrviccs havc Continued to be broad¢dSl Zoom since then, giving
members the opportunity to attend online if they are unable to come to the church building.
During the lockdown, Christ Church h&s continued to hold Sunday Sehool lessons, moving to a weekly
session on a Saturday afternoon via Zoom. The sessions have been very w¢ll att¢ndcd with up to 15
children attending each week. The children have flourished during this time. becoming more involved in
the Sunday services, demonstrating th¢ commitment that both th¢ children and parents have to Christ
Church. Our youth sessions have aEso moved online and our young people taking a more active role in

leading worship. The P&8tor and Elders have continued to offer pastoral support through phon¢ calls and
home visits where possible.
In August, Christ Church began preparations to start a food bank. initially to meet the needs of members
strnggling financially through the pand￿1c, with the aim of opening it up to the wider community.
In November, our Church Secretary stepped down having served a full terni of three years. In January
2021 we were delighted to appoint Blaise Dtas as our new Cburcb S¢cretary following the
membership's vote lor Blaise onto the Eldership. We wish him every succcss and off¢r him OUT full
supwrt in his new role.
2021 promises a new beginning for Christ Church. The pandemic has shown lls new ways of working
and meeting. The church has already seen a strengthening in its prayer life, with members me¢ting
online throughout the week for morning and evening prayer and fellowship. Attendance on Sundays has
remained strong and online services have attracted fellow Christians frotn around the world. With the
prospect of moving into the new building in September 2021, Christ Church looks sel to make a greater
impact on the community of Newham at a time of great need. In God we t￿St.
Finaneial Review
The Charity's financial transactions during the year and the financial situation at the end of the year are
set out in the following accounts. The trustees consider the financial w)sition to be satisfactory.
Reseryes policy
The Elders, policy on reserves is to hold sufficient free reserves to cover six months projected operating
CO8ts. (£41,174). The tota l Teserves as at 31 st Decemb¢r 2020 are £l10.151 of which £33,719 are
Testricted funds leaving unrestricted fijnd balances of £76,432.
Of this £16,915 is held in the book value of fixed assets, l¢aving free reserves at £59,517.
Elders note that r¢serv¢s now cov¢r eight months of opcrating costs which exceeds the required level.
Elders consider this to be prudent given the re-buildiug works and the situation concerning the Covid-19
pandemic.
