## **Objectives and Activities Introduction** 

It gives me great pleasure to introduce Abbots Bromley Sports Associations fifth Annual report, which sets out, for our supporters and the community, our achievements over the year as a Charity and our continuing commitment to future aspirations and plans. 

During the period of this report The Charity was still in fund raising, building and development mode, and no activities are occurring at the new site, or any income generating operations. However, since the easing of Covid restrictions, we are now undertaking operations and activities on the new site. 

As with other organisations the period between February 2020 and the end of August was entirely restricted due to Covid 19 pandemic, and as such there was virtually no activity within the charity, other than continuing to keep in contact to ensure that people were safe and that we communicated in some form with our community. 

Phase II of the project was fully funded prior to the advent of Covod 19, as was a successful resolution to the lease arrangements with the Woodard Foundation. 

However, work was suspended entirely between February and July 2020, and the ability to raise funds was nil. 

Clearly, this has again halted the timings for completion of the project development and has caused extreme stress on our finances, and in our ability to deliver certain phases of work as per the conditions set out by the principle funders involved. 

However, we have managed to complete and remain above the line, and are now operating within our planned parameters 

As in previous years I should like to thank each and every one in Abbots Bromley and the surrounding area for all that has already been achieved in your name. The progress we continue to make, despite enormous challenges on a global scale are a testament to your generosity and your unwavering support, moving us towards our vision of an integrated community facility for sport, health and social inclusion for all members of the community in which we live. 



It is our intention to get back on track over the next 18 months and attempt to bring the project on some sort of even keel. Trustees are aware of the need for some form of regular income in addition to large scale fund raising for development, and this will be a focus in 2021 and 2022.

The short<br>term is encapsulated in the need to<br>complete Phases 1 to 3 in establishing a long<br>term future for cricket and football at the<br>new facility in Lichfield Road, for which there<br>are rigorous plans in place and delivery is<br>well underway, however momentum has to<br>be maintained.<br>In the medium term, ABSA will look to<br>provide tennis, netball, an all weather|





|||facility and to engage with all other existing<br>sports and recreation organisations to<br>establish their needs going forward. This will<br>include working with disability groups,<br>Evergreens and Age Concern to provide<br>activity based social inclusion projects for<br>everyone.<br>In the longer term, ABSA hopes to establish<br>itself within the village as a community hub,<br>owned and operated by the community,<br>working<br>in<br>harmony<br>with<br>existing<br>organisations, facilities and structures to<br>bring about improved social inclusion,<br>education as well as sport and recreation for<br>current and future generations to enjoy and<br>develop as the needs of society change|

The Trust has further extended its reach on partnering and is amply supported by the British Legion, Parish Church, Evergreens, and Burton Albion Community Trust and Football Club. Going forward ABSA, as an inclusive and important community project, will seek alliances and relationships both within the community and beyond to ensure it continues to deliver its vision and its purpose for all.

It should however be noted that the global pandemic has severely compromised the charities fund raising, however, through the support of local businessmen, individual residents, Staffordshire FA and the Football Foundation, with additional funds from our local counsellor, we have enough financial resources to complete our obligations on Phase II match funding. 

Our financial controls are strong and as we have no direct costs to individuals or services we are still financially stable. 

**Phase 3 – Clubhouse – projected cost £400,000** 

The final phase of the development will be tennis and netball courts and the building of a community clubhouse for use with all the sporting activities, and as a community hub. This will be a low-cost timber framed building which will be fitted to a high specification and will have conservation and low maintenance in mind. The foundations for this building are being redesigned possibly to allow for a temporary construction if affordability becomes an issue at the final stage. 

In the short term we have acquired temporary buildings, refitting to a high spec to facilitate showers and changing rooms whilst building is underway.

Over the years she has supported the cricket, football and tennis clubs in the village through her children’s sport and has been an active committee member for Junior Football and is currently Welfare Officer of the Cricket Club.  Her professional background is in Human Resources and Organisational Development and for the last nine years has been School Manager at The Richard Clarke First School in the village.

Phil Ryan Phil resigned in January 2020 as he left the Parish Council Mark Hurst Resigned due to other commitments. March 2019 **Tara Stevenson** . Tara is a local mother and long term resident of Abbots Bromley. As a young mother of two daughters she is well known and respected for her support of the community, her work with the local school and in particular, as a Trustee of the Tom Thumb Nursery. She has helped with fund raising for ABSA for many years and as an opportunity came up as a Trustee, joined the Board in 2019 **Nigel Richards** Nigel is born and bred in Abbots Bromley, where he resides with his wife and two adolescent children. Nigel is a successful engineer with senior positions in large energy companies such as GEC and others. Nigel is a keen sportsman, and has given over much of his personal time to creating, administering and coaching the junior football in and around Abbots Bromley. He has a keen eye and excellent experience in good governance and planning. Nigel joined the Board in 2018 and became a Trustee in May 2019 **N\A** Para 1.51
