The LGH PU team submitted a grant application aimed at acquiring medications, primarily for their outpatient clinic. Background.. Laiza is the headquarter of the Kachin Independent Organisation's IKIOI administrative region in Kachin Land, Myanmar. The KIO is one of the ethnic revolutionary organisalions in Myanmar and acts like a local government with various administrative departments, Its arm wing called the Kachin Independent Army KIA signed a ceasefire agreement with Myanmar government in Yangon/Naypyidaw in 1994. However, the ceasefire agreement was breached in 2011, producing more than 120,000 internally displaced persons IIDPsl across Kachin region both in central government control area IGCAI and the KIO control area INCGAI. At the time of grant application in 2U22, Laiza accommodates about 60,000 IDPS across 8 IDP Camps. It also provides sanctuary lo people who flee the military controlled regions of Myanmar after the failed military coup which overthrew the democratically elected government led by IDawl Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. Prior to 2021, there was no professional support for increasing number of people in need of mental health medicine due to stress and pressure caused bythe coup and prolonged conflict, and economic breakdown due to Covid 19 restridions, land grabbing, Chinese investment, climate change and natural disasters. A psychiatric unit was established at Laiza General Hospital in April 2021, with the support of two CDM specialist psychiatrists and one trained nurse. The outpatient clinic operates six days a week from 9..00 AM to 12'.00 Noon, catering lo up lo 30 clients per clinic with various mental disorders, including major depressive disorders, somatic symptoms disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and other psychotic disorders, alcohol use disorders, and withdrawal syndromes. In case of psychiatric emergencies, such as self-harm or harm to others, LGH has 4 iTrpatient beds. Medicines were purchased from Yangon and Mandalay and transported to Laiza via Myitkyina through trusted channels. The Mind lo Mind Myanmar team unanimously agreed to grant the funds to the PU at LGH, contingent on the submission of quarterly progress and financial reports. The grant amount was determined based on the applicant's ongoing monthly expenditure, reviewed by psychiatrist trustees of M2MM. Transfer of Funds.. Due to challenges in directly transferring funds to any bank in Myanmar, the PU LGH project team ulilized a bank account belonging to the Kachin Women Association Thailand IKWATI based in Thailand, Money was transferred to KWAT.
