REPORT
A challenging year for our work with those in need within the town.
We began with many plans for the year involving our outreach bus working with partner agencies to offer outreach programs for those we wish to reach out to, sadly this was not to be.
With many of the town agencies closed due to the covid pandemic we made plans to continue our work, as unlike many we mainly work out on the streets.
Unable to attract a crowd for fear of spreading the virus we needed to change the way we work to be able to offer a service.
The Soup Kitchen part of our organisation was the safest way to continue our work as it was outside offering a way to maintain distance and ensuring safety for clients and volunteers. Still offering a service every night we reduced our normal service of serving food at the table and replaced it with pre-made bags of food and drink that we turned up with, gave out and then everyone left the site when they had their bag.
This was very hard for us as we were used to staying for a good hour and being able to chat with everyone.
Sadly, this was the sacrifice we had to make to ensure that those in need at least got something to eat and drink.
The charity shop was closed during lockdown, but with government help we were able to cover the bills and the wage of our shop manager.
With grants and donations during 2020 we are pleased that we came out at the end in good stead to continue our work going into 2021.
With masks and PPE our army of volunteers were the heroes that made this year work.
