CIMLA COMMUNITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION

TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT 2023/24

Another challenging year for CIMLA COMMUNITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION in the year-ended 31[st] March, 2024 although again the pavilion and playing fields were maintained to a reasonable standard.

The bulk of the work on the ground is carried out during the summer months and the Cricket Club were fortunate in being able to replace Mr. Jon Finn (Cimla CC) with a group of volunteers who managed to maintain Cefn Saeson Road field in a reasonable condition. Cefn Saeson Farm field is now stood down from cricket but the cricket club worked with the soccer club on grass-cutting.

Continued problems are experienced with trespassers who play mainly football across the cricket square and with dog-walkers and other individuals who fail to observe the fact that Cefn Saeson is now a private sports ground.

The Pavilion itself suffered yet another water leak during winter 2022 and costs for water, heating etc. continue to rise – a very worrying trend for CCSA. The cricket section have re-decorated their room since the leak and carried out various external repairs to the building at their own cost. Less football and cricket are being played and the feasibility of continuing the facility must be brought into question.

The Trustees remained unchanged – Messrs. Jon Finn, Stuart Jones, Mike Price (Cimla Cricket Club) and Messrs. Jason Davies, Craig Richards and Mark Smith (Cimla AFC) – during the year but both Mike Price and Mark Smith will stand down on June 30 having held the offices of secretary and treasurer respectively since the CCSA's inception. Replacement trustees are required for both.

In financial terms, the year showed a surplus of £396.68 and an improved bank balance of £775.80 which will be needed for payments to Welsh Water (£210) and insurance £400 which is still owed to Neath PTCBC for 2023/24.

The two sections contributed £1,600 each and a high level of contributions will be needed going forward as building maintenance costs in particular continue to rise. The accounts were approved as a true record and adopted.

The numerical weakness of both sections is an ongoing challenge for the CCSA and, along with the need to find additional/replacement volunteers, is a major risk.

NB - This report and the accounts were circulated by e-mail and agreed by all Trustees.
