No. 1164833 www.iwbond.org ## **Trustees' Annual Report and Accounts: 2 Apr 2023 – 1 Apr 2024** ## **29 October 2024** In the reporting period 2 April 2023 to end of the financial year closing 1 April 2024, the accounts for International Wildlife Bond (IWB) are given in full at Appendix I to this Trustees’ Annual Report and Accounts. For the given reporting period, IWB’s financials can be summarised as: Income: £0 Outgoings: £178 The cash total in donations on retention at IWB’s Metro Bank account is £57.79 (rounded to £58). IWB continues to maintain a donations page via Giving Me (www.Giving.Me). The annual, ongoing overheads/costs to maintain IWB remain minimal (WordPress renewals and licencing images etc.). IWB continues to be A ‘Foundation’ Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The Governing Document is correctly identified as Version 1.3, dated 13 October 2015 and IWB’s objectives remain unchanged. IWB’s Trustees remain unchanged since IWB’s formation in August 2015. IWB’s ambition to create an on-line platform to bring funds and conservation initiatives together has failed to progress due to the lack of adequate funding. IWB’s initial funding was raised via an interest free loan with no overriding penalties, or due dates from Gillian Jane Wiggins of £2,000 (two thousand pounds). Repayment of this loan remains due when “ _IWB has been established and successfully sourced alternative funding._ ” In terms of achievements in the period, IWB has continued to progress in two main areas: - campaigning on key issues to relevant government bodies - IWB Governing Objective 2.2.3; and - supporting organisations that share a mutual objective - IWB Governing Objective 2.2.5 ## International Wildlife Bond - Reg. No. 1164833 www.iwbond.org In terms of specific areas of concern, action and results: 1. The 2023 “ _Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill_ ” failed in the House of Lords due to filibustering by a group of Lords. In July 2024 there was a United Kingdom general election with a new Labour government formed – The latest development on the hunting trophies import issues has been " _Ban trophy hunting imports_ ," Early Day Motion 97 (2 September 2024) which “ _urges the Government to now bring forward a Bill in Government time which implements a world-leading ban without any further delay_ .” 2. IWB has continued to work with a consortium of non-government organisations (NGOs) throughout 2022/23 campaigning against trophy hunting, under the umbrella of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting. 3. IWB submitted to the South African Government’s Consultation on Conservation and Sustainable Use – South Africa, this included the issue of captive lions. However, South Africa has sought to expand the exploitation of wildlife (Expanded Exploitation of Wildlife Strategy - South Africa) and the legality of “animal wellbeing” (that could put boundaries to such commercial exploitation) has been challenged by South African hunting associations – this all makes any progress towards a consistent withdrawal from captive breeding of species (including lions) muddled – South Africa remains an exploiter and exporter of numerous species. 4. Scottish Wildcat - Scottish Ministers granted permission (26 June 2023) for the Swedish government owned Vattenfall’s windfarm development at Clashindarroch forest – As of September 2024, the outcome of the appeal against that decision is still awaited. Clashindarroch forest is a bastion of the Scottish Wildcat, a rare and endangered species. Groups in Sweden have also joined the campaign against Vattenfall’s controversial development of Clashindarroch forest. 5. IWB continues to support Wild Justice campaigns in the UK – the destructive nature of driven grouse shooting, to persecution of bird species, badger culling etc. 6. IWB continues to campaign and highlight the exploitation of wildlife: - a. The exploitation of African lions and other big cat species (such as tigers) within the abhorrent captive lion breeding and ‘canned’ hunting industry in South Africa and elsewhere; ## International Wildlife Bond - Reg. No. 1164833 www.iwbond.org - b. The Illegal wildlife trade and the ‘legal’ mechanisms that open avenues for laundering illicit and fraudulent exploitation; - c. The ivory and rhino horn trade; - d. Attempts by Japan (Norway and Iceland) to try to legitimise their activities and reinstate open, commercial whaling (against a backdrop of increasing pressures upon whale populations from ocean borne pollution and climate change); - e. The exploitation and slaughter of cetaceans in Japan and the Faroe Islands; - f. The exploitation of cetaceans for human ‘entertainment’; ## g. Hunting industry disinformation campaigns. 7. Regular IWB News (and sister platform InternationalWildlifeBond1) offering substantiated and relevant articles, currently at 336 published ‘News’ and ‘Studies’ posts to date on www.iwbond.org. 8. Viewings to date of IWB’s output are given below (last year’s figures given in parenthesis{}) – Note: this does not include sharing of IWB articles via other platforms: - a. www.iwbond.org – 86,672 {78,427} views; - b. InternationalWildlifebond1.wordpress.com – 16,785 {16,007} views 9. Followers signed up to receive IWB news updates (last year’s figures in parenthesis) - on the main IWB website, www.iwbond.org, we have 92 {95} subscribers. On the InternationalWildlifeBond1 blog page, 83 {81} subscribers (none of them appear to be repeat subscribers – so a total of 175 {176} regular subscribers). 10. IWB's facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/iwbnd/) has some 437 {429} followers. We continue to keep campaigning and supporting others with similar missions - trying to raise awareness for animal and wildlife issues.....and hope it makes a difference to protect the planet’s wildlife.
