Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From: 1[st] April 2021 To: 31[st] March 2022

Charity name: Strictly Wheels Foundation (working name: Strictly Wheels)

Charity registration number: 1164805

Objectives and Activities

The charity’s primary objective is to promote and provide access to wheelchair dance classes and wheelchair skills courses.

The weekly classes in Manchester were established in March 2016 following the set up of the charity and 2 amounts of funding to cover the training of the volunteer teachers and room hire for the first year of classes along with equipment needed to set up.

Achievements and Performance

We stopped classes in March 2020 due to the Covid Pandemic and they only restarted in July 2021. Covid Guidance was imposed on classes, so there were restrictions as to what we could teach. Restrictions were reduced early in 2022 with the removal of all restrictions in April 2022 when free testing stopped. Our volunteer teachers continue to Covid Test, and we will fund any ongoing testing kits required to maintain this as long as necessary.

We have had an influx of some new members who are attending regularly so numbers are up with an average of 10 people attending most open classes.

Competitive classes and practice continue on a fortnightly basis on the opposite weeks to the open class.

All local, national and international competitions remained suspended with only 1-2 IPC competitions being held, however we chose not to send any couples.

Financial Review

No general funding has been applied for during the financial year and reserves have been being used to fund the weekly classes. There is still enough unrestricted funding on reserve to keep this ongoing for another year. New funds will need to be sourced in the coming year.

Restricted Funds continue to be retained and will be used for ongoing projects as was their original purpose.

Future plans

Our regular members are growing in the open class. This remains a less formal class with just an introduction to Ballroom & Latin tuition which is our core strength with the aim of increasing the numbers looking to progress to competitive dancing. We will continue to offer the fortnightly open classes to attract new dancers. We have agreed to fund external training to support the club’s volunteer teachers.
